Having owned the GT3 Clubsport for over a year and enjoyed the highs , times change and I wanted out but didnt know what to jump into next. Read loads about the Cayman R but was worried that the Cayman didnt have enough poke having stepped out of the GT3.

Booked a test drive and was so surprised at how accomplished it was and nice to drive. Power didnt seem to be a problem. The car was clean and one owner and the right price.

After a second test drive, it was for me and the deal was done. 12k miles and a few options ticked as well as a fresh service and 4 new tyres - lovely. Interior is not a huge difference but more modern with Bluetooth and better sat nav and the gearstick and wheel in alcantara just like the GT3.

Just got back after a thrash to the coast with some initial impressions - have to say how sublime the handling is. The balance is superb and there are no fears about the big lump of metal swinging about at the rear !! I dont have pse but to be honest its loud enough in the cabin and still sounds great when pressing on. The lightweight and the power available combine to make an intoxicating package and the 100 or so bhp down compared the GT3 are hardly noticeable. Probably right at the very top of the rev range does the GT3 feel like it has more of a rush.

As I have a short shifter the gearchange is GT3 like, but slightly less notchy and stirring the cogs is a pleasure and heel and toe simple and effective which brings a smile to the face.

The big change is going back to steel brakes and I do miss the bite and feedback of the PCCB but hopefully that will be cured by a pad upgrade in the near future. Does anyone who has done this have any suggestions ?

So in short , if you are thinking about getting a CR - do it as its a cracking little car and I still have a smile on my face.

For Brakes Pads, fit Pagid Pads with Castrol SRF brake fluid

Very nice and congrats!

Nice colour! I've never driven one, but sounds like it'd be a fun drive.

BTW... Let me know if you get bored of those wheels - they'd look great on my GT3... :)

I have considered black wheels on mine !

Looking forward to joining some runs and having fun with it. Spa should be interesting at the end of May.

Black wheels would look really good I reckon - although those silver wheels do look very nice too - decisions eh! The black wheels would match the black detailing with the side decals and the rear wing....

What engine is in the Cayman R? Is it a tuned DFI from the S, or the same just with the car lightened?

iirc

'R' v 'S' = 10 hp more and 54kg less.

If that's the car from Guildford a few weeks back I was planning on going to look at it, it was only on sale for about a week.

Great choice, really really want one of these

Ther are a couple of pics on the net with black wheels and have to say it does look good for the reasons you mention. Perhaps with a set of uprated pads dropped in and a few trackdays they will turn black of their own accord anyway !!

You snooze you lose :D Yes sure was. It was more luck really as when I first enquired about it they had only just got it in and arranged the test drive the day it came out of the prep dept. There are a couple on the approved site but the prices are inflated. I initially was talking to Cardiff on the 2 they had but they weren't interested in doing a deal so lost out.

You bought the best one on the network, pretty much the spec I would have ordered if I bought one new, enjoy it

Thanks mate . I think so too. I did wobble over the lack of PSE but having driven it , I do not want PSE as it would be too noisy for me.
