Having owned the GT3 Clubsport for over a year and enjoyed the highs , times change and I wanted out but didnt know what to jump into next. Read loads about the Cayman R but was worried that the Cayman didnt have enough poke having stepped out of the GT3.
Booked a test drive and was so surprised at how accomplished it was and nice to drive. Power didnt seem to be a problem. The car was clean and one owner and the right price.
After a second test drive, it was for me and the deal was done. 12k miles and a few options ticked as well as a fresh service and 4 new tyres - lovely. Interior is not a huge difference but more modern with Bluetooth and better sat nav and the gearstick and wheel in alcantara just like the GT3.
Just got back after a thrash to the coast with some initial impressions - have to say how sublime the handling is. The balance is superb and there are no fears about the big lump of metal swinging about at the rear !! I dont have pse but to be honest its loud enough in the cabin and still sounds great when pressing on. The lightweight and the power available combine to make an intoxicating package and the 100 or so bhp down compared the GT3 are hardly noticeable. Probably right at the very top of the rev range does the GT3 feel like it has more of a rush.
As I have a short shifter the gearchange is GT3 like, but slightly less notchy and stirring the cogs is a pleasure and heel and toe simple and effective which brings a smile to the face.
The big change is going back to steel brakes and I do miss the bite and feedback of the PCCB but hopefully that will be cured by a pad upgrade in the near future. Does anyone who has done this have any suggestions ?
So in short , if you are thinking about getting a CR - do it as its a cracking little car and I still have a smile on my face.
