Hi all. I am in the process of getting my first Porsche and have got my heart set on a 991.1 C4S.

Are there any particular things to look for/get checked on a 991.1 C4S apart from the obvious full Porsche SH, good warranty cover etc?

Any options are must haves? Is Bose really needed? Assume sports chrono is really used for adding sports+ more than anything else?

Thanks all, any advice greatfully appreciated :)

Cheers.

I bought my 2013 C4s 991.1 back in April and was after a specific options list, Allot of owners are not happy with the Bose setup if you like your music and many upgrade it with speaker packages, Amps etc... it's a personal thing, Sport Chrono, Sunroof, Porsche Sports exhaust (PSE) is a must, a selection of wheels can be found across various cars for sale and i wanted cooling seats which is rare in a 991.... a car thats had the hifi upgraded with Apple Carplay is a bonus but can be done after if needed... Best of luck with your search!

Thanks mate, this one I've seen is a 2013 too in white. It doesn’t have sports chrono which seems odd as a lot of others I’ve seen have it, but has the rest of the nicer spec items inc PSE and a few other nice touches.
No bose but like you say that can be upgraded anyway with CarPlay in the head unit etc.

Any mechanical gotchas to get checked?

I own a 2012/2013 MY 991.1 C4S. Should you care to get into a bit of research research re my past postings you might something of interest... or not...(-:

Change over valves seem to have issues and I think there are 8 of them linked together forming all sorts of functions some simpler to get to than others.

Also possible water pump issues that are not scary but can be a nuisance.

The 991.1 is a beautiful thing indeed, mine spends more time being admired as garage art... Being an old geezer it can annoy me by being just too modern in terms of it`s PDK digital decision making, which does not particularly suit my style of back road driving, but as a Grand Tourer in the true sense of the word, or as a commuter in todays traffic, I suspect it would be hard to beat.... As a fun usable "sports car" on the road.... Hmm...? I guess much depends on where you might find the fun element..?

I bought mine for just north of £62k almost three years ago.... By the time I had it under a 3 year Porsche extended warranty, I reckon it owes me £70k circa 48k miles on the clock... You can work out the approximate cost of Porsche ownership should you decide OPC warranty and servicing might be your planned route.

Good luck in your search....

Waterpump and associated pipework issues are not unknown on the 991.1 - mine suffered from problems in that area which was covered by the Porsche warranty. Something that I miss on my 991.2 is the 14 way seats that I had on the 991.1 . Lack of them would not be a deal breaker but memory function that goes with them is really useful; apart from saving your ideal driving position, the memory function also tips the passenger mirror down when reversing bringing the kerb into view. Further, the driver's seat automatically moves rearward when opening the door allowing the more mature among us to exit the car easily (it also returns to its original position on start up).

Thanks all. Great advice. I found a basalt black on black leather 991.1 C4S at Cridfords with a good spec/fairly low mileage and it looks like it’s the one!

I just wrote a long reply and then looked at the Cridfords C4S. It's got all the must have options. I personally like the multi-function steering wheel becasue whilst paddles are 'cool' I never really drove mine much in manual mode. They describe the wheels as Cerrera Classic but they are the standard wheels - better than the diamond cut wheels anyway IMO and the grey compliments the Basalt. Nice car at the right price in my view.

Thanks. It drove very well, and is in extremely good condition inside and out for its age and mileage. I thought the black with the grey wheels works well too :)
Plus it’s got a 2 year warranty with them included with a gtechniq ceramic coat which are nice bonuses.

Thanks. For the above black 991.1 at Cridfords I think the spec is there for sure.
For service history it was main dealer up until the last one which was done by cridfords. Would this be a major consideration or something I should be concerned with? (not having full main dealer sh)

If the car does not have warranty with Porsche it does not really matter.. small impact at re sale maybe for some buyers.

Thanks. Do you mean main dealer service history? It has a specialist warranty through Cridfords for 2 years.

I'm just about to do the exact same thing, full dealer history up until 41k miles and it now has 45k and I'm having the 12 year service done which is absolutely everything you can think of plus PDK service. I'm also fitting a set of H&R springs.
This will all be done as a well known southern indie Northway Porsche who I've used across the last 15 years with all my Porsche metal...

To me personally if an indie has been used it doesnt bother me, as long as all paperwork with detailed work done is supplied and its a known indie in the Porsche world... but.... as others have said to keep a Porsche warranty going you must have dealer servicing.

Cheers mate, and indeed that makes sense. All paperwork and service history is there, just that it’s had its 40k miles one at an Indy rather than a main dealer.
No porsche warranty to worry about there so I think we are ok.

Another possibly silly newb question, I assume the car warns of impending services through the computer as and when required, but can I go in and see what was done and when through the menus somewhere? It’s just I’ve had a lot of BMWs and that was the norm on those (no real service book you just scanned the key /accessed idrive).

It does to a certain degree but nothing like BMW's where you have the list etc, it'll tell you how many miles until next service, tbh i havn't looked at that .. I ignore it and do bang on 12 months, for these cars its actually every 24 months but i personally do it every year as i just don't want oil in any car past 12 months - its a personal thing and my car doesn't do many miles a year.
