Did you have any trouble selling it with the ''sketchy history''? It looks nice.

Sold it to someone who didn't ask anything at all about the history not even how many owners it has had (I was the 14th didn't mention that in they artical did they!!!) if it had an MOT when was the last service ect and only asked how much tax was on it after they had paid!, some people Eh!! I think it was purely on looks. so all in all not bad for me I even made £750.00 on what I paid for it so almost a years free motoring for me :D

14 owners?! sounds like you were a tad lucky!

There is a buyer for every nice looking car. All those owners of stock cars who claim modified ones are always worth less need to adjust their thoughts beause things have changed in this day and age of quality mods and characterless vehicles, if somebody really desires a car they will buy it regardless of book price. It's a bit like falling in lust you have to make the car look good and sexy enought so they can't resist.

I'll say I wonder what they thought when they recived the log book back, as they asked me to keep it and send the relevent bits off they would have had no idea Doh! still wasn't down to me to point it out!

Anyway I'm now happy with the knowlage that I'm the 3rd owner with fopcsh of my 1989 911 and all going good as I'm sure they are as well?

Bones - I agree with that to a degree. The exception though are the more extreme mods e.g. there is a supercharged 3.2 that has been for sale for probably a year now in Porsche Post. The price has come down from £23k to £19k (I think) and although I bet it looks fantastic, I doubt if anyone will buy it even at £19K. Perhaps when the price gets down to "normal" 3.2 territory - £15k or so - it will sell, but I wouldn't bet on it.

Yes you have to be sensible there are limits, but people suddenly get hooked , I've seen it with motorbikes I've owned in particular (years ago) sense goes out of the window. Often modified cars have fastidious owners so you can pick up a car with literally ever area of the car maintained regardless of cost and upgraded, it's desirability is a hugely personal thing because the mods can include styling issues and that's usually were things go pear shaped for the modified seller. A well done job though will always attract lots of attention but like you say a sale may take a while.

Fair play to you - 14 owners on a car that was made in 1990 (now 15 owners), means that in the space of 13-14 years, it's changed about every 11 months. That is a heck of a lot of people to buy the same car and would certainly point to the majority of people as being something to walk away from (no offence Paul, I'm sure it was a good car)... I think you did very well to sell it.

I also hope the person who bought it doesn't start joining and reading this thread!...

Andy

Remember though a Porsche is a sign of success in some people's eyes and is often the first thing to go when the good times dry up.

Ferrari's can sometimes have quite a few owners.

No offence taken it truly was in excellent condition and when I purchased the car the price did reflect the number of PO's I was just lucky to make a good profit on it as we all know that never normaly happens! I'm sure if the new owner does see this thread they won't have much to moan about and I don't have any reason to feel guilty about selling it to them either it was a good car! (Honest Guvnor!)
