I have been reading the Porsche Shop catalouge and it lists a complete 996 performance exhaust including manifold etc etc and the indicate a power increase of 20 - 30 bhp. Total cost just under £3k.

Also they indicate an induction package which is meant to give 10 - 20 hp for £250.

Do you guys no if the switchable exhaust that OPC can fit gives a power increase or is it just the sound improves.

Does anyone have first hand experience of the above upgrades and are they worth doing.

All the literature says the OEM Exhaust gives no bhp increase, just sound improvement. I wasn't aware that Porsche did a PSE that increased bhp.

I'd say an extra 30 bhp from an exhaust is plain wishful thinking. 5 maybe, and then it would have to be pretty damn special.

If you check the web site out it claims 20 -30hp for 993's also.

I have never put a sports exhaust on a car so I wouldnt now the bhp gains.

How can they claim it if it doesnt give it? :?

A lot of the manufacturers claim extra horses for their silencers, but talking to a racing exhaust manufacturer, he was telling me that the only way an exhaust produces more power is by changing the manifolds to ones with better flow characteristics and changing the cats to 100 cell ones rather than the normal 400 cells.

The 996 has a baffled air inlet system which apparantly does restrict the flow of cooler air into the throttle bodies, so this would probably improve, at least throttle response and maybe mid-range torque, if changed. Either way, a remap would most likely be needed to take full advantage.

The exhaust quoted claims to improve flow considerably. Also included are the manifolds.

£3k lot of money for an exhaust though.

A sports exhaust may give extra bhp through better breathing at higher revs, but the trade off will be less torque at low revs, so you probably won't feel the difference. 10% power gain is pretty optimistic from an exhaust/induction system, and I'd say £3k for 10% extra power is not money well spent- better spend a bit more and upgrade the C4S to a Turbo!

Cant do that, I think that the C4S is the most perefect looking porsche, after a 993C4S that is.

I would think a good remap of the car will give you a better result than an exhaust swap and £500 compared to £3000 seems the logical way to go. The improved mid range driveablity of a remap is where you really want it in a road car.

If the exhaust gives you 5 - 10 bhp at peak when you already have 320 + anyway, that`s only approx 3% power increase.

Removing the spare wheel, tool kit and running on a 1/4 tank of fuel will save about 40kgs and have the same effect! Worth trying to see if you notice the difference before spending £3k.

Now the saving weight idea is a good one, if I slim down to say 9 stone (lose 5stone) and lose the spare wheel, tools, run on a 1/4 tank of petrol I should be able to increase the bhp to the ton of the car considerably

How about swapping the wife for Kate Moss as well Daz? :p

Now Kate was on the phone earlier asking for a date, appartnley she is a fan of the C4S, she likes the curvy back end, but I wasnt sure if she was thinking of me or the car

C4S and god (I wish)

Blimey, Kate would be jolly expensive to run. Coke is a lot pricier than superunleaded.

Diet pepsi is a lot cheaper
