Lowered window yesterday and stopped about three inches from it's closed position when I tried to close it. I can pull the window back up but doesn't seat correctly. Motor can be heard whirring away. Any ideas????

Many thanks! Easy fix, costly or big job???????...any difficulty getting the door panel panel off???

It's a pretty logical straight forward job if you're reasonably competant and have a the right tools, this is a pretty good guide:

http://www.bombaydigital.com/boxster/projects/window/

I did mine a couple of months back, my top tips are:

1. Remove the lower end stops on the new regulator, these are only left on for Boxster fitment and if you forget (I did!) you'll find the window doesn't go down far enough on the 996!

2. With the door airbag unplugged DON'T switch the ignition on, it'll store an airbag fault and the light will stay on.

3. Take your time adjusting the glass afterwards otherwise you'll be left with a windnoise and even a waterleak.

Good luck!

Alternatively take it along to your local OPC who will replace for about £300,
I had to have mine done over winter after an argument with a very frozen window!

Thanks for all your help guys....not going to chance f***ing it up so it's booked in at my local indy on Tuesday.

had the drivers side regulator go on my runaround bmw 330 coupe a couple of months ago took the mechanic about 1 1/4 hours to do replace with a new one with me sort of helping and thats a smallish door /panel compared to the 996 door panel.....cost me 195 for parts and cash in hand labour so 300 ish isnt too much more ,,,,its something i wouldnt do with the airbags in th edoors a real pain ....

It's really not a complex job and there are several really good photo guides on the web. This was the first job I did on the 996 took me about 2 hours , that was taking it slowly and nervously and redoing part of it because I forgot to take the "boxster rubbers" off.

Far easier that opening the car without the key as I found out shortly after :D
