Ok, so my latest spend was more of a pamper really and the final spend (for this year anyway) on the cosmetic side of things.
Thought I would share the results which I am more then pleased with.

Somebody did comment about the bush at the front, but I am a bit partial to a well maintained bush!

Who did it? Did you have full exterior, interior and engine bay done including door shuts? Did they machine polish out swirl marks and finish with Zymol carnuaba wax to maintain that look?
I am thinking of having mine done, but getting conflicting advice. Need to taalk to some more people and then form a view what to go for and what seems to be a reasonable price.

Hi Cheshire. It was a local guy here in stoke. Check his website at www.perfectdetailvaleting.co.uk
The sky is the limit really as to what you want done and what to spend, he is a totally honest guy and spent 10hrs on mine doing what he calls a paint correction detail and yes including removing all the swirls which as you prob know, on a black car is thankless and never ending.
He will come and have a look at your vehicle and give you an honest opinion and price of what needs doing.

It looks fantastic, you'll have to be careful now with your wash techniques so that you dont inflict any marks on it.
Surely 10 hours could not be a correction detail ? Most full correction details I do take at least 2 days and some even longer depending on what level of correction is needed or requested.

Thanks for the contact details. I will speak to them. What I'm trying to get to the bottom of is just what and how much detailing does my car need?

Some say more than others. Some sound like they are trying to sell 2-3 days of detailing work. Prices are extremely variable. Some finish off with Zymol or equivalent high-end carnuba wax. Others offer 'diamond-brite' or other proprietary finish (at extra cost) but the fact is that those products are probably £30 - £50 (diamond-finish products) and accepted Zymol is not cheap at £150 a tub or whatever other silly price it is. Some offer a de-grease wash then clay to get all old polish off that I and other users will have applied. In the end one has to be practical and cut through the sales hype by asking oneself "just how long will this spend give me a shiny looking car where the water and dirt just beads off given the gruelling weather here from Autumn onwards. Trying to separate cost of consumables and cost of a detailer's labour is vague when they quote price £x but then don't break it down and say how much is materials and how much is cost of time. Bit like having an extension where a builder quotes £y with no idea to you of his labour and cost of materials.

I just like to do my research and understand the market and how it works.
Without it, it is a stab in the dark with the lowest of two or three quotes.

Cheers jethro, yes dead right about the wash routine, 2 buckets. Gritguard. Lambswool mitt. Microfibre drying towels, poorboys shampoo, etc etc.
Am using autobrites black magic wax to protect and enhance which is reasonably easy to apply and buff off and it smells of chocolate too and in between washes and to maintain the look throughout the week a quick going over with meguiars qd
With regards to the hours spent I had previously had the front end resprayed following 80k miles worth of stone chip damage so that would have been reasonably easy and quick, also he had previously done one of the rear quarters to give me an idea of the finish I could expect. So yes you are right, without these items it would have been a 2 dayer.

Yes Cheshire you are right to query all the ifs, nots and maybes. That's what I liked about using Andy at perfect, he is totally honest and will not at all try to sell or give you any unnecessary services or products.
For your info, yes he will get rid of all your previously applied wax and no doubt hard work before claying, machine polishing to rid her of blemishes, swirls and holograms before applying layers of wax including auto finesse for the trim.
He has a selection of different waxes but as I say, give him a call and mention that I sent you, he may buy me a beer on commission lol!

Nice :thumb:

:hand: Chum, that is NOT a well maintained bush. Looks a ginga :what:

These people are well respected. Not suggesting you travel this far but the site is comprehensive with lots of info on process and prices, which might help. http://www.kdskeltec.co.uk

Very nice pal :thumb:
You be careful with that sponge now.

Dave

10 hours will be more of a mild correction detail..With plenty of fllers thrown on top to maximise effect..

I usually spend between 20-30 hours to get the paint fully corrected on a car the size of a 996..

Like you say,the sky is the limit on how much you want to spend.

I do have some Zymol Royale king of waxes that is £8300 for light/dark pots..I have enough left for around 5 vehicles, and it is truely awesome wax..

I have my 911 booked in with them at the end of May for some work! :D

Cheers Dave and don't worry, there will not be a sponge anywhere near only the best lambswool mitt!

Have you had any interest in your car?
