Dark Knight - the Barn Find. Some questions answered!

A few weeks ago, I was shown some pics of a 993 doing its best effort to set Portugal countryside alight. Thankfully the car was unharmed. Not long after that, I saw a pic of a red 3.2 Carrera impersonating a BBQ😪. What's the saying, things happen in 3's? I have listened to the universe and procured a fire extinguisher for DK. It's something I've been meaning to do since took delivery, but kept on forgetting about it.
Are you not better making sure it doesn’t catch fire in the first place 🤔

Good reminder, I need one as well, although in your case it might be worth leaving it burning for just long enough to be able to claim for a full respray :D

This time last year I was on the adventure of a lifetime, taking a Barn find car, sat for 20 years, and point it towards Switzerland and then the Med.
I will be forever be indebted to @Alex for making it possible. That trip is documented with pics on page 11 of this thread
What a trip

This is definitely on my bucket list, I fancy a picture of the 930 next to the Hotel Belvedere, but as usual I'm severely time limited so it may be a while in the making.

Calm down. Mechanicals first. That reminds me, I need to book it in with Unit 11 for the engine drop.
Price for the respray will have doubled now 😬 Hope its being stored in a heated garage, all that rust bubbling away

Well, that's the reason why it needs to go in. This is now proactive maintenance, rather than reactive.

I thought I was going to driving up and down passes like an episode of top gear. It couldn't have been a more sedate drive. Watching the scenery roll past was overwhelming for me. Too much to take it. Grindewald nearly finished me off. Stunning.

I had the pleasure(?) of cycling over the Simplon & Grimsel passes back in 2005, en route from Bosnia-London, but as you can imagine, cycling uphill for several hours doesn't really give you that much chance to take in the scenery apart from the odd stop for a cuppa/rest, then down the other side with eyes on stalks concentrating on lines, corners & traffic. However, went back with a car 4 years later, visited other places as well (Furka, The Belvedere and the Rhone Glacier), you can see so much more by pootling round that area.

I've been to the Italian & Swiss Alps several times since, including a road trip I organised with my old M3.

It's a few years since I was there, it's a cracking drive and there are some great little places in the valley, we drove from Chamonix up through to the Furka pass. Everyone has a favourite place but Chamonix is special for me, me and my daughter climbed Mt Blanc a few years ago and I love the place.

All the big passes were closed in May - only one open was Oberalpass

A trip on the Furka Transport train was as close as we got to the Furkapass

We had the opposite issue a few years ago, in April it was so warm that snow had melted and there was a lot of boulders falling that are normally frozen in, these things can be the size of a house and they kill people on the mountain.

We were climbing and we’d flown in, so it would have been great for a drive but we couldn’t summit because it was too dangerous.

Seeing how far the glacier had receded made me realise that global warming is a thing.

The climate has always changed! But it sure ain't the cow farts that is causing it!

I have no idea what's causing it, us, aliens, driving my 911 too much, whatever, I'm not into the politics behind it and for what it's worth I think taxing people because of it is a big con, at this stage it's a money making scheme, but it is happening. You can see the marks on the rocks where the glacier recedes every year.

I'm doing my bit with an EV, old cars should be banned. Frank I'll take it off your hands as I know it's playing on your conscious !
