Can someone advise which fuse to check, or have any idea what else could be the problem ?

The connector block on the back of the clocks is the usual suspect.
Especially if the instrument panel has been removed recently. :thumb:

Hasn't been removed ?! But will check it out in case it has worked loose?
Cheers!

Are you able to see anything in the display?
It could just be the bulb that's blown behind the LCD.

Wow, looks like I moved that one on just in time!

As tbrown said, check the display is actually still working.

If you can't see it in daylight, bounce a light of the back off the LCD display, ie point a torch at it from one angle and look from the other.

If the clock is still working (ie correctly operating the 7-segment display), then it is just the bulb.

Otherwise, it's Waz 911's multiplug suggestion.

The dash-pod fuse would run the whole instruments' illumination, which I am guessing hasn't gone, or you would have mentioned it.

But for future ref, the fuse assignments are listed in the little booklet behind the fuse door next to your right foot, or here in 996 FAQs:

PS - how many miles is she up to now?
