Clicking off when filling up...

Was filling up yesterday and got about 15 litres in when the nozzle clicked, similar to what happens when nearing full up. Played about with it for a while and got there eventually but was a slow process, as kept clicking off. Sure I've heard about this before but can't find any posts anywhere, any ideas or can someone point me in the right direction on this please?

I used to suffer from the same problem (I think with two different cars, 997 and 987) and particularly at one fuel pump which I used regularly as it was on my daily commute route.
It seemed to help if i turned the fuel nozzle around the "wrong way" so that it was almost vertically above the filler, presumably allowing air to vent more easily past the fuel pouring into the inlet pipe.
I never found a permanent fix, but then, I never took the trouble to look into it beyond finding out that it was a known issue with some cars.

It is a common occurance. Turn the nozzle to a different direction, pulling back a bit, fill slowly..thats all you can do.
I keep filling the tank up, never let it below the half way mark. That has helped.

I find some pumps are worse than others, I just usually move the nozzle a bit further out and pump a bit slower.

Drain my tank all the way down before a refill (reads --- on the range). If I don't use up the whole tank it'll never get me anywhere!

I was only thinking about this on sunday morning while topping up, i was unsure on how to word it " what is the best angle to get your nozzle in ".
I do find putting it in and turning it clockwise so it points to the drivers door is good .

This has been a recurring happening on every Porsche i have owned. In the beginning it used to bug me but now i take it as one of a Porsche's traits.

Concurring with 'Ducky ' It is made easier at times by different pumps (but Shell stations seem to be the worst) i put this down to slight difference in fuel delivery velocity ( of the actual pump , not the nozzle angle, but the angle is normallly key to smooth flow ).

My method is, place nozzle in the tank neck until it clicks off , then tweak and twist and turn until its flowing then repeat the twisting , tweaking and turning until tank full ......

Then i have to try to remember to hit the front nose lift button so that i dont scrape my splitter of the forecourt drain as i leave the station !!

I still remember vividly one time on a trip to Germany in a Cayman S , filling up in Holland, was surprised how well the tank filled , placed nozzle back in pump rack , turned to go to pay , heard a horrible metallic 'Thunk' to see the nozzle lying against the lower wing !! Witness a typical parking type Ding !!!!

These are just a few of the joys of Porsche Ownership.........
