Hi

Here is a one time offer

My car on the way home last night developed a misfire. Its now at Sports and Classic where it is being looked at, but early indications are that it has lost compression on 2 cylinders on 1 side. Possibly the valve springs.

Engine will be coming out tomorrow or early next week, hence the 1 time, 1 or 2 day sale.

Its a good car generally-I bought it in March and have had the following work done to it for it to be admitted on Mikes Maintenance Plan.

Drives brilliantly and has no bangs, crashes or wobbles-all those bits have been replaced.

I would like £5500 as it stands.

1999 996 C2 Tip
Full service history-Mostly OPC then specialists
Scwartz black-been resprayed just before I bought it as a tidy up. There is a small run at the leading edge of the bonnet. Other than that, the car is in good condition.

Recent paint correction.
Prior to me buying it, has had 2 new variograms, MAF, water pump, coolant bottle.
Half savannah. I know its hated, but actually has the black dash and 3 point steering is black also. So not too in your face!
Turbo look wheels (orginal option-could do with a refurb)
Factory Upgraded hi-fi (Becker traffic Pro High Speed)

Power Steering pipe £591.00
New radiator £498.85 (other side and condensers are fine)
Oil leak £74.24
Front Rad duct £78.00
4 lower arms (coffin etc) £522.00
1 rear track rod £113.33
3 Adjuster bolts £35.21
Coolant pipe £51.86
2 pipe clips £5.38
20 wheel bolts 117.36
Geo £264.00
New exhaust brackets £104.00
Plugs and coils £400.00
4 Michelin PS2 N3 £850 (Still with 7mm of tread all round)
Timing chain tensioner checked and adjusted.
New oil cooler pipe.
New Porsche OEM mats

I am not happy to be selling, but will sell at this price. If not will get it fixed and carry on. I know I should keep having done all the above, but you know how it is when you get "upset" with your pride and joy.

Will post pictures tonight, but it can be seen on the 996 "Show us what you got" thread. (http://www.911uk.com/viewtopic.php?t=78485)

Wow sad day :?
What would you get next and at what cost? Don't rush into anything bud,if it all gets sorted the car should keep you smiling for a while then? Gona need a lot more with the £5500 to get another good 996 or equivalent :dont know:
I know what you mean it's a gut wrencher when it happens but don't give it away....
Good luck...
Dave

You are right...I think I have already changed my mind.

I will only be paying for the parts anyway, so I will keep it. The amount spent means that its pretty much sorted...and I mean, how much can a couple of valve springs be........ :?:

Cool! I have a few things to sort on mine and sometimes think, why didn't I save a bit and get a minter, but at least when it's all done ill know 'its all done' older cars will usually be work in progress anyway, you could buy another for £11k tomorrow and end up throwing a few grand at that! I've decided to make mine my own and stick with her for the long haul 'Which will be a first for me!'' mines been maintained regardless all it's life so I recon it deserves my perseverance and dedication...
Hope it goes smoothly! :thumb:

Often better the devil you know with these cars

Once sorted it looks like you will a nice car once again

Importantly, you know what's been done to it. Many neglected
996's around for £12/ 15k that need lots ££done.

If the valve springs turn out to be the problem I'd definitely get it repaired as they are not much. You will get chance to check the bores (should be fine on a 3.4 anyway) at first hand and preempt anything that might need doing soon. Change the Chain Guides as they are cheap also check for very slightly bent valves by grinding them all in before re assembly.

Thanks for the advice. I will discuss with Mike next week when the engine is out, but he knows what he is doing so am sure he will do what it needs.

OT, but last time I was there he had engines from all over the world in there to be worked on, such is his reputation :worship:

Re: Cheapest 996 in the country. For sale, 1 day. Are you br

I remember you asked about tyres in August and wanted to use Black Circles. You paid a well inflated price to the tune of nearly £200!

Don't understand. :dont know:

I think they were that price....I will have to check the invoice......

Its back

Was indeed a broken spring, very rare occurrence, and even more rare that it didn't lose the valve and wreck the engine!!

In all his years, he has only ever seen 1 of these happen before.

Fixed amazing quickly, since Mike only got it Thursday Am and it was done by the end of play last night.

yet again he saves the day

If its still £5,500 I'll have it :dont know:
