Cayman Opportunity

I have the option of a very well sorted Cayman 987 S 3.4L with a fully rebuilt engine and proper refurbishment.
I've always fancied a Cayman but just somehow always ended up in a 911, but I'm wondering if it'll make a great alternative and offer something quite different.

It's had a full engine rebuild with lightweight components and motorsport rods, lightweight clutch, etc, it revs up like an F1 car :D
Milltek full system, big brake kit, all new hoses, polly bushes, etc.

My mate was considering it but I think his finances aren't where he needs them to be, so I was thinking about it for myself, but I've got a pretty full garage and wondered if it's different enough to warrant cramming another on the driveway somehow.

You don’t get many 987.2’s that have been messed with to that extent. Do you know why ? I presume they are asking a premium for it which would take you towards Cayman R money which would be the safer bet financially so you would really need to like how it drives differently than an R ?

It's one of MLRs personal cars and those guys tend to put a lot into their own stuff, even Reeces Td5 Defender is a beast of a thing.
I was there early last year and we went somewhere and Marc took me in this Cayman, it's a very impressive car and there was a short discussion about them probably selling it but it didn't get mentioned again and then a coupled days ago I messaged and asked about it.

Basically, if it's for me, as in my personal use, then he'd sell to me at just what it owed him and it's not even half what an R would be.
I don't need it, haven't really got room for it, etc, b ut it seems crazy not to buy it.

I've been tempted to look into this as Reece showed it to me in December.. lovely spec too.

I have both platforms and prefer the way a 911 drives

I have a thing for the 911 (obviously)....but what I mean is that I really like the weight over the back thing, I think I said this in another post, but I'm not a great driver or anything but I do really like the way you can use the weight when you're driving it.

This Cayman is awesome and originally it was another of my mates that told me to ask because he was looking for one, but he's changed his mind now so I thought about it for myself but I'm really struggling to justify another car.

For a 987 my dough would go into this CaymanR

Yeah but that’s almost 3x what this one is and that’s a proper commitment.
This one I’m talking about is relative pocket change and is like a guided missile that’s been the personal car of a marque specialist and it’s cheap.

Harry, out of interest, am I correct in assuming they want circa £17k for that Cayman as I don't recall what Reece mentioned...? It's not on their site for sale.

No it's not for sale on their site, or even advertised anywhere, it's a personal favourite and they're not in any rush to sell it.
I think the screen price was £18k mate, but if you're serious then I can have a word.

My emotions got the better of me and I wanted to drive it away the other night but it was't possible, it needs an MOT and they want to full detail it and ceramic coat it before they let it go and they obviously couldn't do that there and then, they offered to drop it over at my house next week but I'll be away now for months and I think it was some sort of higher power looking out for me, I'm impulsive but the truth is I've got enough cars sitting around as it is.

I'm no expert but that car is bang on, if my missus was coming home for the spring/summer, which she sometimes does, then it would be hers by now.

I sound like their marketing person (:D) but I just shout out good cars when I see them, I'm equally as enthusiastic about the 996 GT3 in RPM Techniq, they're good people and that's a cracking car, but I'm in the same situation, not enough time and space.

Cheers H, to be honest I'm not a Cayman fan, if I was going back to mid engine it would be another Boxster as I do miss having a convertible in the garage but more than happy with the 996 for the time being. I've actually got my eye on a rather nice B7 S4 cab as a summer toy...love the Audi V8.

I had a thing for Caymans for a while, I was quite set on one and did the usual reading up and looking around but then ended in in a 911 as usual.

Marc was/is a huge fan of the Boxster, he bought one of those RS60's a while ago for a holiday car to take on the back of the motorhome, he usually takes the 993 Speedster but that's an expensive car now and I think the idea is to take the RS60 instead now.

I was talking to a bloke who owns a big supercar place (I'm always a bit careful throwing names and details about) but anyway, he found himself in possession of a Jerry Seinfeld type Speedster and sold it the same day it turned up for a big price, but he said he got dozens of calls over the next few days to see if he still had it and people were throwing silly numbers at him - this was during covid though when people we happy throwing half a million at something they really wanted.

I think the Cayman at MLR is outstanding for the money and how they've got it set up, if it's still there when we come back for our big yearly break then it'll probably end up on my drive.
