Cargraphics exhaust

A new member here.
I recently bought a 993 Varioram fitted with a Cargraphics exhaust system.

Does anyone know anything about these exhaust systems.

The Insurance company wanted to know how much extra BHP it gave, the cargraphics web site tells me nothing and the dealer I bought the car from (and who fitted the exhaust for the previous owner) said they thought it probably added about 10BHP but they hadn’t got the specs.

Can anyone help?

Without meaning to be facetious (such a big word for an evening!), this is the perfect answer. If the cargraphics says says nothing, you should say this to the Insurance company, rather than saying a 'supposed' 10bhp. Why pay additional Insurance when you don't actually know whether it makes a difference or not?

How much of the exhaust is it - if it just the rear boxes, I think 10% on a varioram is pushing it slightly. Maybe, and I stress maybe, it could be 4-5bhp but ultimately it will probably depend more on the individual car than anything. I'd say leave it as it is, will then knowing about them but nothing more.

Hope this helps.

Andy

Cheers Andy

According to the receipt they replaced silencers and tailpipes at a cost of £1,130.
It might be naïve of me but why would someone buy such an expensive exhaust not knowing whether it adds anything to the performance.

My Insurance have put the increase in BHP as ‘up to 10%’ which is far too high and consequently have robbed me.
I previously had a Jaguar XJ8 4.0 which was a very high group, the 993 is double! Which is outrageous.
I certainly have had the privilege.
I will be looking for a new insurer in a couple of month’s time.

Hi Andy,

Most exhaust mods are for sound/cosmetic only, you don't really get much noticable power gain, if any, with changing the silencers and tailpipes alone.

I went through this with my Yamaha - changed the exhaust to make more noise so people noticed me filtering etc. in traffic. Debate with Insurance co. went well though, but you have to be firm that there is no power increase. I suggest you show them the manufacturers website and instruct them to reduce your premiums. Most experts agree with Butzi above - just changing your silencers will make less difference to power than just getting the timing right.... (probably not too long before the Insurance companies figure out how to increase your premiums for that  )
