Car will not start

Hi all,

Recently acquired my 996.1 C2 Coupe, this one being my second one and currently has 62k on the speedometer. Since purchasing have had the car serviced, had a coolant flush and have had a low temp thermostat fitted.

Went to car yesterday morning and turned the key and it cranks engine turns over, has enough battery power as tried cranking with jump leads from another car, but wont fire up.

Have removed the DME relay and had tested, seems to work. Have ordered another one just in case it is intermittent.

Have done some research saying it could be fuel pump, are there anything else I can check before getting the car on a flat bed.

Any help will be much appreciated.

could be any of the following in addition to fuel pump ....ignition switch earthing issue and or starter motor.

Thought it might be a grounding issue, so have called an autoelectrician to have a look, will ask him to check the ignition as well.

Have replaced the dme relay but still no joy.

Can you hear the fuel pump priming before you start the car? Turn the key until the dash lights come on and listen for the pump to buzz for a couple of seconds. If you don't hear anything happen, that points to either the fuel pump or the fuel pump relay.

When turning the key the fuel pump does not prime, but can be primed from the ECU side. Therefore not a faulty fuel pump or relay.

Auto electrician has put it down to a faulty camshaft sensor. Does this make sense, is it common?

Some fault codes that were thrown up were:-
21
49
59

Will have to find out what these are.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Could it be the ignition switch? Also read on an Rennlist the the clutch has to be depressed to start the car, as there is a switch which activates once clutch is down. On there they say that this could be faulty, is this true?

Do you have a spare key for the car? Have you tried that?

I'm just wondering if its something to do with the immobiliser forgetting the keys transponder chip.

Eca - Auto electrician ruled that one out, went through the immobiliser settings and no faults detected.

I'm leaning towards the clutch switch. Any thoughts on that?

That feature was introduced later (either with the 997 or maybe the 996 facelift, don't remember for sure offhand). It will not be the problem with your car.

Thanks for that red.

Still can't find what the codes mean.

Something is stopping the fuel pump to prime. Autoelectrician sent power to the pump through the ECU and pump worked.

Could it be the ignition switch?

Finally car is sorted, turned to be the crankshaft sensor. Very strange though as the signs for these to be on their way out is that the car will not start when warm. I was not having any warm start issues.

In the process changed the DME relay and the ignition switch, so these parts don't need doing, and so have spares in case of an emergency.

Much appreciation to Richard/Andy at Performance Porsche in Sowby Bridge.
