I know most of our wives / girlfriends can drive BUT the question is, do you allow them to drive your pride and joy? And if so, are they any good? And any scarey tails of nearly trashing the motor : )

In Japan you see women driving Porshes all day long - the husbands are in the office and you believe you have to be a) a big shot to drive to work or b) living in the country!

However, 80% of all Porsches in Japan are TIPTRONIC! At least since the 964 anyway!

Yeah, no problem. 993's tough enough to withstand a bit of 'insensitivity'! Mine's a 6 sp, BTW.

yeah - absolutly no problem letting the other half drive. She prefers the 993 to my old 3.2 as its easier to drive - lighter clutch, power steering etc.

No horror stories with her driving the p- car, but give her ANY car whilst we drive in Italy and she will find its top speed. woke up in the passenger seat one year on the way back from the deep south of italy on the way home to CH to see her redlining in fith her brothers passat.

i calmly slipped on my seat belt and said nothing -

Italians - its in their blood

Yep, hence the tiptronic concession. She had mesitting quietly in the passenger seat recently when we hurtled past a dithering string back glove, garden centre type. She claimed she wanted to see what the 'kickdown' was like

Warren Know the feeling! The girlfriend is Spanish, showed me how to get a Seat Arosa onto two wheels. Nearly soiled myself. No she doesnt drive the Porsche, I prefer all the wheels to be in contact with the ground. I did let her drive it down the road yesterday and typically did her best to see if she could get the pretty needle into the red area....she loves that game.

The wife drives the 3.2 reasonably well apart from changing up too soon, but she is slowly getting the hang of it. She drives the it a lot better than our mondeo, where she tends to go every where in second and forgets completely about using the gear box.

My Mrs has yet to try the Porker, she's still a wee bit intimidated by it, but seeing how much fun I'm having it's only a matter of time.

But she is more than capabale in the golf. She once detected an early sensor problem because she couldn't undertsand why she lost out to another identical car on the road and insisted there must be a prob with ours! I was a proud husband that day! :D

I let the beloved have a go in my old 930 a while back around Sainbury's car....on a Sunday so dont panic. Firstly got whiplash from her leapfrogging the car everywhere to begin with then nearly died when she discovered this great thing called turbo lag. 'Wow darling it really wants to go when the needle gets to 3000Mph'......yes dear....please look at the road!!! Its 3000rpm.....the road !!!!!! Why are you still looking at me grinning???? Look at the bloody road!!!! It seemed as though we were about to make a spectacular entrance into blockbuster....didnt luckily as I'm still here. She is a brillianr driver, its just that shes Spanish and they are all mad!!

My wife would like to drive it but I think she is a bit initimated. She drove the 996 a bit - she wasn't insured on it - silly on a GBP 65,000 car BUT, I got her insured on the 997 since she's in her 20's it cost an arm and a leg! However, she's only had 2 attempts - the first one she stalled it up hill in a traffic jam - woops!

The second one was more exciting, we were going nicely on a nice big wide road - three lanes at about 60 MPH when all of a sudden a JCB was stopped around a blind corner! WHOOPS! She put the brakes on, didn't change down and almost jumped into the other lane without looking - lots of beeping, braking and tyre smoke! I personally started laughing after we were out of danger but the car was only 2 days old and she got a bit annoyed! Aparrently it was my fault :)

She drove the tiptronic boxster no problem and the manual Boxster she had no problems with either....bit more practice thats all!

Personally, I couldn't careless if the car got written off - just don't want ANYBODY to get hurt.
