Does anyone know if there are any major differences between the UK spec and US spec of a 996 cabrio (e.g. lights, cats????). I'm looking to import a LHD from there as the exchange rate is very favourable at the moment.

Thanks

Dan

This subject was covered recently on the forums - maybe do a search. There are a number of differences in suspension ride height and spring rates; engine tune; type approval. The advantage you will save from the echange rate will more than likely be offset by import duty (17.5% I think) - you should check that out with cutoms & excise first.

I was under the impression that there was no VAT on second hand vehicles and no import duty because the car was manufactured in the EU.

Has this changed?

Importing from the US.

1. tech spec may be different therefore it wont have type approval.(you need sva..a pain).

2. 'option' spec will be different, therefore new security system.

3. Value may be a little down on lhd euro 996.

4. Vat is payable (but not duty because of EU manufacture).

5.Vat is on the value customs deem fit plus the shipping (no dodgy tiny invoices).

6. Check cost of rhd liptronics.

7. You may pay 'local' state sales tax.

Hope this clears it up,

Adrian Crawford.
