Buying a new 997 or 996

Just supposing you were in the happy position of being in the market for a new 997 or one of the still-current 996s, what would you do?

Buy from an OPC?

Or buy from somewhere like Camtune or Autobahn (which have some cars in stock, waiting for a punter to sign on the line)?

What's the upside of the independent route? Cheaper than OPC? Quicker delivery (especially if what's in stock is specced OK)?

Any downsides? Warranty issues? Servicing issues? OPCs get sniffy and won't talk to you/touch the car?

Maxy, I was offered a really fully spec'd C4S for the same price as a 997 Carrera (PASM, Sports Chrono, Xenon's, Heated seats) - I think, I personally would go the 997 route! BUT, the 996 is a great car as well - I loved every mile I did in my old one!

Maxy, If you go to an independent now for a 997, it would might not be a C16 UK car. As for 996’s, I would go to them. I would also buy privately, as long as I knew what I was looking for. Buying a fairly new car still entitles you to the 2 year warranty. If you buy from an OPC, you will be paying around £8k to £10k mark-up to the OTC for the privilege (a small part of this is fair enough) well they do have to keep those shiny new buildings polished.

You also need to know that most of the car's you see in the showrooms are also purchased from the private market by ther buyers. So why carn't you.

I have had many discussions with Camtune, they seem v nice people.

No issue re service, as long as it has service history from an OPC, but after 5 years or so, a specialist is just as good.

If I was in the market today, I would buy 1 year old private. I sold my 2 year old 996 C2 on e-bay. Hope this assists

Well I'm not in the market for another car at all. But if I were, and I wanted to buy new (and that depreciation didn't bother me), what are the pros and cons of going the independent route?

The ?C16 UK spec is an interesting point...

I know! I was just acknowledging that punters need to be smart enough to check this out. :)
