Hi Guys,

I am thinking about getting one of these as something to restore, but having known someone who almost bought a fake a few years back, i was wondering if anyone could give me some pointers on how i could tell if one was genuine or just a dressed up 968?

Cheers

-Rob

Or 968Fraser might be along soon to give you some pointers...
There were +/- 175 UK spec club sports produced over the two and a bit years they were made. Best check is to get the vin number of a prospective vehicle and check with Porsche to see if its a CS. Obvious visual identifiers are no back seats [heavy shelf instead], lower ride height and 17" cup 2 wheels (fronts will be 7.5" diameter - important). Other bits include smaller alternator, lighter wiring loom, no dolly mixture box under the bonnet to put servicing gloves in etc [tho' loom may be heavier if car was heavily spec'd]. CS models don't have electric windows, mirrors, boot release or rear wipe, tho' these were options.

A number of folk have produced pseudo CSs - I went to a track day at Donington a while back, and a right Charlie was telling anyone who would listen that my CS wasn't a real CS [maybe he didn't know they made a right hand drive spec - go figure, I couldn't be bothered to give him the vin, or point out it was my car].

A while back 968s were being written off at the rate of one a week, hopefully this number has dropped! There are a couple of CSs for sale on the forum you've been directed to, inc. a red one not far from you (Reading) that belongs to Andrew.

Service history is very important - some of the jobs are very dear [belts, clutch, flywheel, pinion bearings....the list goes on.....]. Make sure the options sticker is stuck in the boot (depending on who put it on at the factory will determine where!). Nice options include MO30 (upgraded brakes and suzzies), 220 (LSD) and the club sport seats are very hard to get hold of and fetch good money - ensure you get them with the car.

Lots of other info on the 968UK site, or get in touch if you want more info from me - I post on 968UK as FraMac. Happy hunting.
