Hi can anyone direct me to fix the problem of my brake light staying on 1997 C4 - I guess its probably the brake light switch but not sure where this is located
Any help please

Do you mean the pad wear indicator light or handbrake light? If it's the handbrake light then it's probably the switch located at the rear of the lever.
Mine was intermittent for a while and this was the problem - easy fix remove the cassette/CD/ coin holder to gain access and realign the switch.

If it's the brake light sticking on, which happened to mine, I replaced the brake light switch. You find it by pulling up the brake pedal off the rod, fold the pedal back on its hinge and you'll find the switch under there. About £10.00 for a new switch. Before you replace the pedal, adjust the switch up and down on its thread so you get the brake light coming on at the right time. To replace the brake pedal back onto the ball socket at the end of the rod, hold the rod in place with pliers with one hand while you push the pedal back on with the other hand.
