ok - i know its not strictly a porsche and certainly not a 911, but has any one any experience of this car?

Im considering one as a winter car as im fed up driving to work at the moment looking throught the side windows and then arriving at the office and looking at the drivers seat and wondering where did that pinch mark come from ?

Anyone owned one? Anyone driven one?

If any one has any honest info / experience about RS2's then please let me know. No urban legends please

I've been looking for a decent one for a while although running costs are now putting me off. I made a similar request on this forum and got a few replies from owners - do a search under forums for RS2 to pull up the previous thread. There are a few reviews on the web from owners, eg:

I understand they are supposed to be very capable and reliable cars with a decent turn of speed (officially faster to 30mph than a McLaren F1 apparently!) but tend to have that trait common to a lot of Audis of being a bit 'too good' - i.e. bland.

But, if you're in a hurry to carry a wardrobe across a winding stretch of road in the middle of a Swiss winter, I suspect there's little to touch it - apart from an RS4!

yes - i've considered a RS4 as well - but i kind of fancy having a porsche badge on it somewhere - hence the rs2. plus i can revel in the thought that i onw 2 porsches (well almost) -

Bosch - tell me what you know about running costs please ?

Check out these road test and reviews on MCP's site:

http://www.mcp-motorsport.com/images/testimonials.asp

Worst part about running costs is 18 mpg, engines and turbos seem to be very reliable; usual tyre and brake costs for a Porsche. The other thing putting me off is finding a specialist who knows the cars - by all accounts the main dealers are useless. They're really holding their value now at about £14K for LHD

how does 10 K GBP for one with 92k miles sound or 9k GBP for one with 89 k Miles?

My fav option at the mo = 12 k GBP for one with 64 k Miles, black - very stealthy.

The MCP site has lots of usefull info - cheers !

I wonder if an independent Porsche specialist could look after one ?

Failing a rs2 then it looks like a shiitty old golf - just for when the world turns white.

Any other suggestions for a reliable winter hack?

I think you've hit the nail if my former neighbour in Adliswil was anything to go by. One house but three underground parking spaces. Three cars and one set of plates. 993 TT for spring and summer, RS2 for the winter (he reckoned it was better than M+S wheels for the Turbo 4)...., and an M5 for any occasion that the other two might not fit.

i've only got one indoor parking space at home, but have 2 at the office -
and i figure that if i dont start filling up the extra space then one of the Ferrari boys at work will nick it to store his object d'art in it for 11 months of the year.

Hendo - as you know at this time of year here its not a bundle of laughs driving a porker around - i can be as carefull as i like, but no-one else seems to slow down and increase their distances - it would be far simpler to be able to drive like every one else and not worry about snow/ice/freezing rain etc. Besides the 993 seems really twitchy on the snow and i dont enjoy those little sideways moments.

How did your neighbour fair with his 993 TT ? did he use it at all in the winter - as that was another alternative that i thought about.

I was determined to use my p-car all year round - if just only to wind up the red fiat owners at work - thats what it was designed for after all - but i guess after 3 winters i've made my point-

Warren, those prices sound very good; presumably they're local?

Stick with the RS2 - makes far more sense cos you'll have no problem selling it on and 315 bhp on Alpine roads sounds like a lorra lorra fun

although RS2's can be a dog to look after but the driving experience is amazing... as long as you have a local'ish specialist how know's how to sort it out.....

but technically they can be pricey but they are very quick.. and Audi body lasts forever.. but almost all the cars would have been driven hard..

check out
www.rs246.com
for all the owners site..... and of course it still looks the business.....

Hiya Warren

the neighbour faired very well with the TT cos it never went out in the inclement stuff. Thats what he had the RS2 for. And you're right about their driving style. ! foot clearance and 80 MPH. Used to make me very twitchy let alone the car!!

Bosch - yes these are local prices - you want me to source you a car?

Another 3 inches of snow last night - :(

So ring the boss, tell me you can't get the car out of the drive and grab your skis!! You don't want an RS2 because then you don't have any excuse for not being on time for work in the middle of winter!

Nice try - but then i wouls be expected to take the train - and i cant use any of those traditional uk train excuses - the trains run on time here and in ALL weathers !!

My colleague here in my office has a nice blue LHD RS2 - he may sell - he is a car enthusiast with a number of classics so its all good.

Would you like to know more ??? Shall I ask him ???

Will
