I know this is a Porsche forum, but...

I put my name down for the AMV8 a few months ago; and I received a letter from the dealer [Leodis Court/JCT600 in Leeds] yesterday asking me for a £5K deposit if I want to go on the official waiting list.

I rang the dealer and he told me he has ~400 expressions of interest and ~100 cars/year. Even assuming only half of those interested do put down a deposit, that's still a 2 year waiting list.

I asked him the price: £79K+ for a "basic manual coupe" as he put it. For those of you following the saga from the concept car onwards, it was billed as a Porsche competitor [implied ~£65K]; and the car mags have been quoting £70K in their stories just this last month. Looks like Aston Martin is cashing in! Good luck to them, but at over £80K once you've added a few must-have options [red brake calipers anyone], I'm afraid it's not for me.

I suspect it will sell like hot cakes and drive beautifully. I saw a prototype on the M40 nr Gaydon a couple of months back and it looked stunning.

However, the 911's rear seats make it the only real choice for a driving enthusiast with kids...
