car not on extended porsche warranty, Trader is happy for 111 point inspection. Car comes with 15 month AutoGroup warranty (Ultimate with with purchase price claim limit per claim). Trader says this warranty is at least comparable to the Porsche warranty if not better coverage... :?: But when looked at the warranty Ts&Cs it looks like the warranty has "plenty" of exclusions (page 8 of the following doc)

A) any experience with the trader (Lakeside Cars)?

B) any views/experience about AutoGroup Warranty?

C) anyone knows the car and its history please?

Thank you

Paul Stephens is not too far away in Halstead, he would be able to point you in the direction of someone to do a thorough PPI.
His cars are superb.

I don't want to put you off the dealer as they may well be a decent outfit but in my experience if you're going to buy a Porsche then you can't go wrong with one of the well known Porsche specialists such as 911 Virgin, RSJ, Northway, JZM, Chappell Sports etc etc. They all have great reputations and know exactly what checks to carry out. Most cars they reject are normally sold onto the trade. This could be one of them.

I have no experience of AutoGroup Warranty but generic warranties such as these do not cover costly faults such as scored cylinders, IMS failure etc. That's why my preference is to buy a car that comes with the OPC warranty or an in-house warranty from someone like RSJ.

The risk is in your hands. Getting a 111 point check at an OPC or PPI via someone like Peter Morgan is a good start.

Zantaz,

Thank you for your opinion.

I agree with your views and it is just the fact I have been looking around for a good few months. I started by only considering buying from OPC, no joy.... Then extended to specialists (my list includes: RSJ, 911 virgin, Stirlings, Yourkshire Classic Porsche, Harbours, Adrian Cawford, Northway, Paragon, Cridford, JZM, Purely and Dove House :dont know: ) Recently i started to look at private and trader but my gut feeling i should stick to OPC/reputable specialist untill my dream car arrives... You helped clarify things for me. Thanks

The one thing I found when looking for my Porsche was that it was impossible to get my ideal spec, I had to compromise.

The easiest thing to do is to explore private/trade Porsche in the hope of finding the right one. I'd be patient and wait. The right one will come along but you'll need to act fast as they do go quick.

It's one thing owning a Porsche but in the event something goes wrong, its worth having that peace of mind knowing the dealer you bought it from will look after you and not dump you with a useless 3rd party warranty.

Good luck :thumb:

I know that trader very well - they sold me my 911 six months ago! I also took out the warranty with Autogroup as I wanted something for peace of mind. (I just commented on your other post re: warranty).

As for Lakeside - they were ok. Andy owns the place, but Tony was the helpful guy who served me. They are not a specialist of just Porsches, but you can take comfort in the fact they do sell a lot of high end cars, incl Ferraris and Range Rovers etc.

As far as car dealers go, they are fine to deal with and do seem to have a good stock of cars. I think they are looking at moving into a more specialist Porsche field, but for now they sell a bit of everything.

I only live a few minutes from the garage, so if you need any more details, drop me a PM and we can talk more.
