Thanks Mate.. Just needed to check, not good with Offsets and stuff like that..

Sundeep did tell me some rule about how to work out what Offset is needed for 18" on a narrow body, but I could not work out what he ment !

Sorry but the offsets required on a narrow body 993 are

Front 8 x 18 offset 52
Rear 10 x 18 offset 65

I do not believe those wheels will fit as they will stick out to far.

The basic rule is if the offset of the wheel is less than the offset required the wheel will stick out to far and if the offset of the wheel is greater than the offset required the wheels will fit if spacers are used.

Easiest way to find out is to check with BBS. Every BBS wheel has a different fitment number, eg these wheels are RS, so say RS 354, where the 354 signifies the fitment application.

BBS wheels tend to have a lower offset than factory applications to make the wheel "fill" the arch. If these wheels are 993 fitment then the lower offset will still fit the car concerned.

As an example I ran BBS RS and RC wheels on my previous car, a Corrado VR6. Factory wheels for this car are 6.5" wide with ET43. The BBS wheels I fitted were specifically for the Corrado VR6 application and were 7.5" wide with offset of ET33 - an inch wider and 10mm difference in offset.

My point is these offset differences are par for the course for BBS, you just need to ensure the wheel is 993 fitment (from the wheel number).

I agree the best course of action is to get the fitment number from the seller as you are not then relying on his knowledge (or lack of) of what the offsets are.

I still doubt the rears will fit as 10" wide 18s with an offset of 65 only just fit without rubbing (I have some for my 993) so I can't see how a wheel that sticks out a further 15mm will unless you change the camber angle on the suspension (and b*gger up your handling).

Ian.

Nice looking wheels that would make a 993 look v tasty. Can't comment on offsets, but make sure your car is OK for 18in wheels as built. Earlier cars need a steering rack brace. The changeover point roughly corresponds with the intro of Varioram IIRC, but don't take that as gospel...

Thanks Maxy,

Mine is a 1995/M, with a factory lowered Chassis... Northway told me "you may need item that will stop the steering turning as far, but will not know till I put 18"'s on"

There is a full list of chassis numbers on the PCGB 993 forum (under FAQs) which require the strut brace etc. I have an early '95 C4 car and it was ok so I suspect the stiffening bits are only needed on early 993s

Thanks Peter, I have registered with the Forum and will check when I get home if I need a Strut Brace !!

Yes, Peter B's right. One of St Maurice's useful FAQ posts. It's about steering rack braces, not strut braces, though.

Dan, your car will need a steering rack brace IMO...
