So i have been walking out the door and looking at my c4s every day for the last month. This weekend i should 'finish' it and it will be almost the perfect car. That is to say i love the colour, interior, all the suspension is new all the oil leaks and grotty bits are sorted and it's rust free.

I am toying with buying a 997 and using it every day. Although mine has just clicked the 100k barrier I have a hatred of the molasses entwined salt they put on the roads here in wales and think it's a shame to ruin what is a very very clean and complete car.

25k will get me a tidy 997 and yes it'll depreciate but i'll use it.... Failing that i buy a winter hack and keep the 993...

Or a 944 like me. Well it's still a Porsche if you can cope with the very retro feel and looks.

+1

Or just drive it!

Then spend the money (you would have lost on buying a 2nd car or the depreciation on the 997) on having the car professionally cleaned (remove all the under trays, wheel arch linings etc) at the end of the winter.

Yes, if you love it, then drive it and get it cleaned at the end of Winter by a pro as APW said.

If you feel you've 'done it' and have an itch to scratch, then sell it now while prices are high and buy a 997.

Change is good.

I personally wouldn't drive a 993 on a daily basis anymore. Too much traffic, too many potholes.

Then drive one at night, no traffic and you cant see the potholes!

Youve answered your own question. :thumb:

He lives in Wales not the South East

I'd buy an old classic over winter. Austin 1100 or the like :thumb: Great street cred nowadays

Selling it seems to be a crazy mans option so i have optedto sell everything else i own.

Anyone want a VFR 800, a t4 transporter camper van, a 1961 landrover, either of two stylus kit cars or an immaculate 1987 vw scirocco, my saab 9-5 aero already has a buyer.

Now i need to work out what to buy to go alongside the 993 and my T4 syncro van. This may be the ultimate combination....

Er, but you've already got cars you can use as a winter hack?

I'm confused.

Um not quite, i do a minimum of 80miles a day last week i did 1500 miles, the only sensible thing i had was a 9-5 aero which was demanding more garage time than the porsche has ever wanted hence its gone.

It is difficult to explain but i drive a mix of roads, surfaces, sizes. A bad car can make 50 miles feel like 500 a great one makes 1500 feel like 50. I'm not too afraid of fuel bills but a good ride is essential and 1961 landrovers and transporter vans are bone shakers...

The draw of the 997 was its usable, comfortable, great headlights and bluntly pretty sensible to run...

Ah, fair enough.

Definitely sell the 993 and get a 996 or 997. They are both way better suited to the dark and all manner of roads and driving conditions, unlike the 993 which feels far more Classic.

Doing that much mileage, I wouldn't want to be in some old hack. Life's too short.
