for peace of mind, can anyone recommend a knowledgeable guy for pre sale inspection?

Hi Jamesh,

The early 911`s are great cars I used to own a `70 911E. Like you say though, on these pre-galvanised cars corrosion can be a problem. I've had no experience of Formulae Fuchs but they have been going for some years. I believe they initially started out importing early rust free 911's from the States and built their reputation on this.

Regards companies in the Midlands area for pre-purchase inspections. You could try Gantspeed Engineering @ Boston, Lincolnshire. (www.gantspeed.co.uk) there about 40miles from Formulae Fuchs. They have been going for over 20 years and also carry out restorations on early 911's, 356's so would be a good choice for pre-purchase inspection on an early 911.

Hopefully someone on the forum will be able to give you more detailed advice. In the mean time I hope the above is of some help.

Good luck with your purchase.

Jay.

Sorry Jamesh, I've no experience of Classic Chrome. While your in London though check out: Tower Specialist 56 Druid Street London. SE1 2EZ. 01207 357 0911.

They mainly sell early 911's and believe they have about 7 early 911's for sale ranging from £9,000 - £15,000. Might be worth a visit.Jay.

Jamesh

I have visited Classic Chrome before, although I didn't buy from them. They don't specialise in 911s but do have a few through their doors now and then. They are a pretty small outfit but seem to be well run and are very helpful. The 911 I looked at was being sold for "a friend" of the garage and wasn't actually on their books - not sure if this means anything, but surprised me a little. If they have a car you are interested in I would recommend going along - they are bound to have a couple of other interesting cars to have a look at while you are there.

Cheers, James
