I've never been a Porsche fan, but i was looking at the model lineup on Porsche's site and i want to see if anyone is thinking the same things about these models. All of the following comments are based on the CURRENT Porsche models. (2013-2014)

To me, the headlights and side air vents of the Boxster and Cayman give them a much nicer and sportier look than the 911 models, from the front and side views. But as far as the back end styling, the rear view of the 911 models is much, much nicer. The styling of the backend of the Cayman from a rear view is not that good looking at all. The tail lights do not help the Cayman or Boxster's styling. Though the Boxster avoids the bad styling of the Caymans back end.

Also, the back end of the 911 models is too extended. It almost looks like the hatchback models or sedan models if Porsche were to make sedans. And the slope of the roof contributes to the stretched out, hatchback look. I cant help but want to cut off half of the length of the back end of the 911 models with a chainsaw when i look at them from a side view.

And then theres the round headlights which dont look as nice as the bigger, oval headlights of the Boxster and Cayman. With all those different variants of the 911, there really should be a 911 model that has the headlights and side air intakes of the Cayman and Boxster, with a shorter back end (keeping the 911's back end styling). This would create a Porsche that looks stunning from ALL angles, which currently does not exist IMO (aside from the 918 of course). It would be called the 911 Cayman. The best of both models.

But then theres the Boxster Spyder, which does look stunning from all angles as its name suggests, and would be the Porsche i would buy over any other models. But it would be an updated model with a better looking, electronic controlled roof. :)

What's not to like! :)

Is it 'Porsche' the brand you don't like or just the way their cars look?

Having owned a good number of cars in recent years, and being a current 987 Cayman S owner I can honestly say that if you want a sports car that has it all (looks, handling, power, build quality, refinement, and everyday usability) I fail to see much if anything at all that Porsche as a brand does or has perhaps ever done wrong!

That said, in regards to your points about the styling I do very much agree. The side view of the Cayman look great, as does the front (though quite similar to similar aged 911s) but the rear doesn't do it for me, the 911s is definitely a better design - I guess that comes down to mid engine vs rear engine housing and bodywork adaption. In an ideal world I'd rather like a 2/3 size 911 but I guess there it would be rather pointless building a lineup of sports cars which all looked alike.

At the end of the day every Porsche has its merits and every Porsche is special, I'm sure half the Porsche owners of the world like to own an immaculate 60s / 70s / 80s Porsche over a modern one (money aside), not many other manufacturers out there that built cars 50 years ago that enthusiasts would genuinely prefer to own over a brand new one out the showroom with all the latest toys thrown in as well.

So, you don't much like their current line up, just check out their back catalogue, there's plenty to choose from!

Can I just ask - why would you register for a porsche enthusiast forum and then state you have no liking for them at all? And then assassinate the models currently in production? :o

You do have a point though, the 991 is too long for me. Other than that I dislike the panamera and the cayenne as they are not sports cars.

The Cayman S is a truly superb car. The new Boxster is a little cracker too.

If money were no object I would love to have a GT1 or a 959. Failing that a lovely 964 turbo. The only other thing I would love is a 996 turbo...
