A couple of 993 upgrade queries

The engine pulls better since the remap (which you’d expect). Not day and night different like a mapped turbo, but noticeable, as far as I know it’s on the stock engine mounts, which was another upgrade I was considering

Chaps, going back to my query of using the stock shifter with the taller RS linkage, if the gaiter is too tight, what are the options (apart from buying the RS shifter too)?
Thanks

Hi

RS spec engine mounts are a worthwhile upgrade. Be respectful to your engine carrier if you do change the mounts. It can/will twist if you are not careful. Pulling the carrier and having it strengthened at the same time as you do the mounts is also an option.

All the best

I would also say new C4 mounts are better balance, harder but not too hard

Hi

You mean the all rubber ones without the fluid? Those would be a good alternative. I tried to get two of them for my 986 but got really confused with the part numbers. I thought I had ordered the C4 ones but what arrived was the standard fluid filled ones. I sent them back and just filled the voids in my old ones with polyurethane which worked well, but was actually too hard, especially on a 986.

On my 993 at least the RS ones did not really increase NVH, but there again I was after a bit more of a raw "964" sort of feeling. I did a couple of different mods in that direction.

All the best

a LWFW helps but not exactly earth shattering

A short shift has no impact on the gear level, a must have mod
This is wrong

Its about an inch taller and puts the knob at a better level IMO

there are short shift options, some that don't change the height of the gear level

I've got the Rennline semi solid mounts which have three different elastomers so you can play around with the feel. They look nice, are well priced and work well. I use the street inserts FWIW

The original will stretch and remove the scrotum-esque effect around the base of the gear leaver. Lots of options tho, there is a shift leaver in the classifieds that would do it.

Thanks chaps, the flywheel is a dilemma, I’d really like the car to be freer revving, and could cope with a little noise particularly if you could drive around it, I’m in rural west wales, so city driving isn’t really an issue, and I was hoping to create a sort of civilised RS

I have the RS LWF and clutch installed with also the RS gearbox and engine mounts .

It makes the car rev sooo much quicker and gives the 993 an old skool 911 level of sports car noise . In traffic I’ve not found it a pain, the only issue is that it’s more either on/off when pulling away so don’t expect any racing starts from the traffic lights unless your riding the clutch. When you’re on the open road though it’s far better than a car equipped with the DMF IMHO.

It is definitely a noisier cabin (but the RS mounts in mine add to the noise)but I love it. It’s not massively intrusive, you can still hold a conversation on the move.

I’ve driven around 5k miles in mine and wouldn’t go back to the DMF as I feel it saps the engine.

I had mine (and the mounts) installed by 9M which included it being mapped by Chipwizards. I’ve only stalled it once and that was reversing out of the garage.

The car will require mapping or it will constantly stall. Hence why I took mine to the guys who could make it work.

Finally I also have the RS quick shifter. Get someone who knows what they are doing as if it’s installed incorrectly you won’t get the full quicker shift action. The standard gear knob cover also fits fine with the taller shifter installed…… It’s a great upgrade and the change is better with the taller stick.

Good info, thanks Wozy, where abouts are you? I’d love to have a ride in yours to experience for myself
