Hi all,

I was looking to have the centre console lid and handbrake re-trimmed by DesignLS or similar but having looked on their website I would really like to have the whole centre console re-trimmed (the existing one has not aged well). This leads me to my dilemma, I was also looking to replace my steering wheel with the sport design style (silver 3 spoke trim) and get the interior door handles repainted. So...the options are as follows;

1. Centre console full re-trim in leather, sport design steering wheel centre and door handles stay silver.

Or

2. Centre console lid re-trimmed in leather, centre console piano black, sport design steering wheel centre and interior door handle also in piano black.

There is a centre console on EBay finished in piano black, advert says it's been done by Wicked coatings.

Has anyone got photos of either option fitted? I'm also a bit worried about scratching the piano black along with the usual finger prints and dust issue...

The wicked coatings clear coat is very durable. Lots of coverage on this thread. http://911uk.com/viewtopic.php?t=116174&highlight=wicked

Link to my handles and gear hoop to show black version (note hydro dipped in a carbon look). http://911uk.com/viewtopic.php?t=147551&highlight=wicked

Thanks G2,

The threads above certainly show a few options...all 34 pages :worship:

Ian, Either leather or paint is a great option , as you will see in the links from G2 I went with the paint option from Wicked Coatings on the gen2, I have to say it never scratched or chipped the quality of the finish is excellent as they are a coatings specialist not just a body shop , they even do a soft touch finish very similar to the OE but you can have it in any colour you like.

The Leather option from Linas at Design LS is also great his workmanship is first class and the French stitching will match your OE perfectly , I had an armrest with Porsche word done for my gen1 then he did an alcantara tip surround for me, I have seen his leather hard back seats as well amazing job :thumb: For comparison see the alcantara pic the armrest is OE the tip surround is Linas see how well the alcantara colour and the French stitching match .

So whichever you decide your car will have a fresh lifted look :thumb:

But is can be addictive   so keep control of your wallet

I can vouch for Linus' work. I recently had my centre console, PDK surround and lid re-trimmed in leather after the dreaded peel. The leather is warmer than a painted finish and easier to clean. I'll post pics tomorrow.

Hi all,

Thanks for all of your input, the leather option is looking favourite at the moment. Kenno78, I may look to do the same as you, leather console, lid & PDK surround, great if you could post some piccies. I spoke to DesignLS yesterday, it seems that he can re-trim items to my choice using items he has stocked, I then visit his work and he swaps the items over, saves on the postage and hassle, just wish he was a bit closer.

Do people use DesignLS for steering wheel re-trim or Royal?

Ian

Here you go Ian. Apologies for the state of the interior. It needs a clean!

Thanks Kenno78, photos look great, it's looking like the way I'll go. Looking at the photos you've changed the silver interior door handles and PDK trim surround to satin black, was thinking of the same approach, if you don't mind me asking who did you use or did you DIY them? Ian

I DIY'd them and it's really simple to do. I used 800 grit wet and dry to key the surface, then painted them with Tamiya TS-29 Satin Black paint you'd get from a model shop.

Painted the Carrera S emblem on the back too with the stuff. It's been quite durable.

Might have a go at the vents one day if I'm bored.

Had a go at the vents and cup holder trim today. That's a pig of a job.

Can't separate the silver trim and the back of the vent without breaking it. So I pulled the flaps out, masked and painted the side vents. Difficult to get the flaps back in without scratching the new paint AND the metal clip that holds all the vents together was a royal PITA. I had to tie it all together using floss!

Couldn't pull the flaps out of the central vent so had to mask those off and paint in situ. Amazingly that turned out alright.

It's all back in the car. But I can see why there's very few posts about painting this stuff. :nooo:

Those vents sound to much like to much of a PITA, may have a go at the handles & PDK surround when I have a bit of time over Christmas. Just sending DesignLS an Email for costs and estimated turn around time.

Here's a pic of it done though...
