996 C2 with Carrera's tyre pressures ?

I know this subject has been covered before, but I have a 996 C2 with 18" Carrera's & have heard lots about tyre pressures.

Some say use factory pressures, I have heard 36 all round a few times.

Any thoughts on this - tried & tested pressures anyone can reccomend ?

I have also heard that garage air pumps are not accurate. I have a digital pressure gauge - so should I use that to check pressures when filling with air to ensure its accurate ?

Julian,

Don't know about the 996, but my 993 has 18's and I've got them at book pressure.

Get yourself a good gauge, and always check the tyres when they're cold.

36 all round is for 17 inch wheels - see the sticker on the passenger door or the manual - 18 inch recommended pressures are 36 front 44 rear "MINIMUM" pressures according to the Porsche handbook, if you travel regularly at over 100 mph the centrifugal force on the tyre will cause the centre of the tread to bulge - so you need higher pressures with 18's to keep the tread area flat to the road - otherwise the centre of the tread will wear faster than the outside and also you will have reduced grip.

Always carry a good quality guage and check pressures weekly with it.
