993 headlight problem- any advice?

My 993 has had the HID conversion done- the problem is that with
dipped lights on at night the beam appears too high and too far left-
sometimes pedestrians walking towards me on the pavement shield their eyes because it's blinding them.....I want to lower the beam and make it
more central. I've popped open the small plastic cover found behind the carpet in the boot and tried to use the allen key adjustment as shown in the
owners manual- but for some reason the adjustment screws are out of line
and can't be used (the right headlight adjusters are fine).
I think maybe whoever fitted the HID conversion messed them up or something....

Does anyone know a solution to this problem?
or does it mean a trip to my local Porsche garage?

Is the ballast and wiring for the HID all stuffed into the h/lamp units? Sometimes packing them in prevents the levelling switch from working and possibly the beam adjustment if wiring/ballast is forced against the adjusters. Try to reposition the ballast units

Any chance the lever to turn the beam for use in Europe was moved during install?

Did it pass it's mot with the HID's.

Have you had the headlamp unit apart and made sure that everything appears as it should.

As Zingari said it may be that the ballast is fouling something inside the headlamp unit.

Try facing the car close to a wall, turn the lights on, adjust the leveling switch in the cabin and see if the beam of both lights shining onto the wall moves up and down. If not then the ballast is probably fouling and preventing them from sitting at the correct level.

A ball-ended allen key is your friend...

+1 for the ball end long reach Allen key..

Many of the adjustment nuts are out of alignment with the access holes .. It's a common fault , but a ball ended key will work when slotted in at an angle.

Thanks for the replies....
I tried altering the levelling switch in the cabin
whilst in front of a wall and it's definitely working fine.

I shall have another look tomorrow with a ball ended allen key-

Hi, how about if the ball end allen still does not work you could pop out the headlight and make the adjustment then re fit. It may take a few attempts but at least you can adjust it. Horse.

Dont ask for the bell-end allen key as you are likley to get thrown out of the shop :thumb:

If I pop out the headlight how do I then make the adjustment?
Can it just be pushed/manipulated into the desired position?

The adjusters are attached to the headlight assembly - the whole thing comes out of the wing, you'll see the white hex adjusters on the side.

It can be done with the headlight removed, but it's rather tedious - a ball-ended Allen key is much easier (in situ).

Top tip there, Zingers

I know many of you have had little sleep worrying about my headlight adjustment issue so I thought I'd put you out of your misery and say
the ball ended allen key did the trick, so all is well- many thanks for the
helpful advice.
