993 door stay

does anyone have any advice on my door stay it makes two cracking sounds when I open and shut it, I am worried it will drop and damage the door permenently.

it has to be welded in the door shut !

dont look pretty but its the only sensible fix!



its because the weld from factory breaks....

nice when its fixed tho...soooo quiet!lol

I have the same problem with my '96 993. Two distinct and loud clicks heard when opening drivers door. Does anyone know if this would be an expensive fix at a specialist?

Common problem on a 993

You need to weld the strap to the skin around it

i.e where you see the check strap on the a post you weld all a around the strap

, had the first one welded by porsche centre exeter's body shop who carged about £60 then had the door shut resprayed by my bodyshop

easier to tell someone who to do it than write it down so if you want to give me a ring your welcome

Their first quote was £500!!

When i bought my 993, I got the dealer to replace the door straps with new ones to stop the clicks. I think they must be inherently weak however, since within 9 months, on the drivers door which gets all the use, noise was back again. I think welding them is the only satisfactory long term answer.

It is very common on 993's. It is one of the key points I checked when I was searching for my car. I believe there are two ways of fixing this - expensive and not so expensive. I seem to remember that the proper could cost about £500...???

I've just had my alarm siren replaced at Hamilton and Palmer and the technician noticed my door clicking. He fixed it in about 2 mins! He just tightened two bolts at the end of the door strap where it joins the Car frame. Brilliant!

He reckoned the slightly older models were welded but newer ones had bolts??
