Guys, what's the best method of repairing a 993 door check strap?

I'm aware of two methods - one where the pillar is welded and another where the wing comes off and is repaired behind the pillar.

Opinions?

Cheers.

It's worth searching the threads - this has been debated here before - or at least there are some experiences mentioned.

I'm thinking a leather strap from the door pillar to the door like on an old Morris Minor.

Door removed, a hole is then cut in the bulkhead to gain access to the rear of the check strap in the A pillar.

Check Strap plated and re-welded, panel removed from the bulkhead re-welded in place, resprayed and sealed as required.

Depending on who does it, OPC Porsche during warranty life the door could be replaced. As this is the official Porsche method of repair, it also carries a liftime guarantee.

Even if you have an extendded warranty on the car, Porsche are probably not going to entertain the cost of the repair even though it is a known fault.
