I am used to my 928 with hydraulic tappets etc.

Is it correct that a 993 service can very expensive due to adjusting valves etc?

How often do they need adjusting?

993 has hydraulic tappets, it's 964 that needs adjusting.

I thought this was so.

Is there anything that has to be adjusted in the 993 engine as part of a service?

Only the driver - most of the time anyway!!!

The main reason every other service is expensive on a 993 is that the 12 spark plugs need to be changed - the cost of the plugs is not great but they're tough to access on one of the banks of cylinders; so there's a fair amount of labour involved in removing heat exchangers etc to get at them.

8 hours labout for a 24k service on the 993 - circa £1100 at an OPC. Also has two oil filters, one of which is a b----er to get at and remove.
