992 Targa roof only opening partially

Hi, I've had a 21 plate Targa since just before Christmas, and have been using the targa roof a couple of times a month on average since then. A couple of days ago, the roof started opening and the rear window moved out but the targa roof didn't move and I got an error msg. I tried closing the roof but it wouldn't move; I restarted the car and it only then closed. I tried a couple times more and the same thing happened. Thinking it might be a low battery issue, after an 80 mile trip yesterday I tried again, with the same result. I asked Porsche Cambridge (where I had bought the car) and they said "if the roof hasn't been used much it might just need a little encouragement manually to get it working". Porsche West London (nearest dealer) said they would need to book it in (hopefully under the car's extended warranty, it's only done 7k) but I would dearly like to avoid this if possible as the round trip is still a hassle, oh and now they tell me they can’t book the car in until 29 May. Does anyone have a similar experience or advice?

Might be lubrication issue but a little encouragement is not what you need to hear from a dealer franchise

Note, West London is not a great OPC for servicing, but step is to understand what the error code has thrown up and to see what the next steps are

Thank you, confusingly after another 80 mile trip, the roof has started working again, which suggests it was a weak battery issue. However confusingly I’m pretty sure that during the few days the roof wouldn’t open, the battery indicator looked fine, or am I missing something?

'21 car with a 3 year old battery, bit early for a change but worth doing that in the 1st instance for an AGM battery (not lithium)

Thank you; is there any way you can tell from the instrument cluster whether the battery is well charged or not?

What does the battery guage tell you when you have key positon '1' not running? If it reads around 12v then it's OK (12.1-12.6 optimal). When driving the charge rate will vary and can go up to near 15v but that doesn't mean the battery is knackered.

A sure way to check is by a battery discharge device. Most garages have these where it can produce a paper printout of the battery health. I suspect Kwik-Fit and Halfords use Clinton Baptiste methods so can tell you a new battery is needed before they leave the workshop 🙄 . Porsche OEM batteries have been known to last 15yrs. The date stamp is on the neg terminal XX YY week/year.

This is so helpful, thank you. I've just checked key position 1, and it's showing 13.2V. Then driving it showed between 13.0 and 13.9V roughly, so it's looks like I'm in the clear; however for the first time I got an "Ignition key battery low" msg, so I suppose I need to get some CR2032 batteries and youtube how to change them...

Hi
I have a 2023 992 Targa with the same issue. From my experience it would appear that on occasion the seal of the roof rubber to the windscreen surround is greater than the strength of the motor and a simple nudge by hand is enough to break the seal and the roof operates normally
Hopefully this is helpful
Jon

if its a rubber sticky seal try a wipe of gummiplfedge rubber treatment - cant do it any harm at all
