991 Exhaust Sound

Ive been lucky enough to be given a new Cayman S whilst my 997s is in for some work... had the cyaman for a week and was fun at first until I got into a new 991 Carrera 4 which was completely amazing. Comparing my 997 S to the 991 4, I would say I firstly love the extra space of the 991... and 4 wheel drive isnt a bad thing either... what i love the most however is the exhaust sound of the 991.

The 991 4 has a sports exhaust and my 997 also has a sports exhaust... the only problem is that the 991 sounds a hell of a lot better... deeper, louder and has a kick back at higher revs... absolutely stunning. The 997 is quiter and just doesnt sound like that...

does anyone know how to make a 997 S with sports exhaust sound anything like the 991 with sports exhaust?

Thanks

R

Don't forget the 991 comes with a standard "Sound Symposer" (do a search on here) for extra induction roar piped directly to the cabin.

Even from the outside the 991 has an almost V8 sound compared to the 911's before, so the exhaust men must of spent some time on it tuning that sound from a 6 cylinder.
I've been on run outs with many and they sound great externally, internal is a very good sound also.

damn - i love that sound so much it looks like the 997 is going to have to be replaced for the 991 asap - might not be anytime soon but heres to the next dream. Apparently you can take a certain switch out the engine to make the 997 sports exhaust not go qiuet at certain revs and is permanently on... ill give that a go to improve things a bit... a porsche place in reading knows how to do it so will pop down there....

I didn't mean to imply it had no sound (or the same sound) outside, just that is has the SS too.

Porsche spent a lot of time in the 991 exhaust tuning, some info here page 3:

I have read some negatives about the 991 but I think Porsche have got it absolutely spot on!It has enough of the past but lots of the future to its make up and in my opinion it is a big step forward from the previous model.
...and the sound!!!..just fantastic!! 8)

'mrcityrunner' (or anybody else), can you please enlighten me more w.r.t. this switch? Thanks!

I took the Porsche to Northway Porsche in Reading and a really nice guy called Paul did the mod for me at no cost... he also looked at a few other things for me at no cost - great guy and a nice place to take the car.

Anyway the point is, after driving around for 4 days in the 991, even with my 997.2 sports exhaust "on" permanently, it still doesnt do it for me.... i need to get the sound deeper/louder etc.

Does anyone know of a cat bypass or muffler bypass pipe that can be installed? If so any recommendations on a good one? If bypassing the Cat is not a good idea then what about the muffler bypass or are we talking about the same thing?! Im no mechanic!!

Ideally, there will be something i can by that will bypass something in the sports exhaust system that will just make it sound louder....

This is ideally what i want it to sound like:

anyone? ;)
