So....
I've had the 996 & 997 turbos , am missing the Porsche ownership so much now.
I have been looking at the 993 and 964's...
What I want to know is from a buy and keep point of view what's the best one to go with. I do like the classic looks of the 964 but! Does it thrill???

The choice is yours :thumb:

Having had a 993 and now a 964 both are great cars. 993 is more 'refined' and slightly better engineered.

964 slightly more raw still very well built yet requires more caution when buying. Unloved for several years but now very much in demand :thumb:

For me the torpedo wings/upright lights won me over as the more iconic shape. Plus owners of 964 tend not to worry about mileage and tinker about more with it. No substitute for air cooled with a G-Pipe. As one owner puts it "Go cars, not show cars"

Both are sound investments :D

Hi

I have had both and the difference for me apart from the torpedo tube view as you drive a 964 (big plus), is that the rear suspension on the 993 is a real step forwards.

There are things you can do to the 993 to make it a bit more 964 like in terms of rawness, and i have done a few mods in that direction to my 993.

Any 993
Best of both worlds
One foot in the past, the other foot in the near present

Thankyou for your comments.

How do I get a ppi done on a car?
I mean to say- the seller will not let me take it away to a garage??

Is there anything I really need to be careful with when buying a 964

No offence but I wouldn't let someone take a car to the garage I was selling
Or do you mean he won't take it to a garage full stop, even if he takes it for you ? If that's the case walk away, probably something to hide if he doesn't want it on a ramp

Yes- true , what about buying one from specialist Porsche dealers.
Should I be afraid of 100k on clock

If he wants to sell it he should agree to taker it to the Indy nominated to do the PPI. After all you are paying for the inspection not him.

When I sold my 993 I drive the car to the garage with the buyer and we both watched the process. When one of the mechanics offered to buy the car off me he realised he was getting a good deal

Where is the car in question - we might know it or offer a view :dont know:

I wouldn't be too concerned about milage as long as the price is adjusted to allow for it, buy on condition not mileage
What you want to see is plenty of history , not just stamps in the book, but history and ideally invoices of what work has been carried out, engine, bodywork, preventative maintaince ect
My biggest concern would be rust or rather rust you can't see yet
But I'm sure others will be along to give you more pointers

The advantage of buying from a dealer is its convenient and you will probly get some sort of gtee
The downside is you will probably pay a bit more
