944 turbo, BIG turbo

Excellent find! :thumb:

The guy that built this car is ex-Cosworth and it's a stunner, built on an S2 shell rather than a Turbo one if that bothers you but it's a work of art.

It's my car that's the supposed ornament, I'll set the facts straight as Nick loves his hyperbole - should come with his own Facebook fact checking service

I had the engine rebuilt as it was starting to burn oil and had some bore scuffs, it was overbored 0.5mm by a specialist machine shop who had the right equipment to hone the Alusil. I then purchased a set of pistons to suit the new size that had a special Alusil compatible coating and had the engine rebuilt by D&G. I have been running a stand-alone ECU for some time and during the rebuild I went for a new flywheel with a triggering ring built in, unfortunately the triggering ring wasn't machined properly so I had to wait for a crank mounted trigger to arrive from the states and this took months.

Once this was fitted it started up and pulled like a train but was using loads of oil, a bit of investigation found that the pistons had shed all their coating and it looked like someone had taken a bastard file to the bores. Further digging found out that there was a global issue in the coating for a batch of Porsche and BMW aftermarket pistons. Pistons were replaced FOC for uncoated ones, engine has been sleeved and rebuilt, flywheel issue was resolved FOC by the manufacturer of that - build thread is a few below this one - and a claim has been lodged with the Piston Manufacturer's Insurers which is still being sorted out.

And it did 300 miles between rebuilds (and 3l of oil  )

It would be tough to let go of a car you've owned for 26 years, wow marriages last less time. But if you've not used it in all that time...

The engine in that car looks amazing. Definitely something special.
