944 - Intermediate Steering Shaft needed

Hi All,

I wonder if someone can assist with technical advice on a 944 please?

I went for the MOT and was told I need an Intermediate Steering Shaft - the joints have too much play : https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Intermed...401332&hash=item5b877197e4:g:rgUAAOSw5iJgFvOg

I cannot find any parts that are RHD, apparently the one above is LHD only.

But - I wonder if Porsche really had different parts for the two versions - does anyone know if a German part sold as LHD will fit my UK car?

Or - even better - a Golf part? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VW-GOLF-...484097?hash=item343af5c2c1:g:NgwAAOSwRp5gDgFr

Many thanks for any assistance!

Many thanks -

Thank for the response - that is a good link and I would buy it if they had stock.

Porsche do not have stock. Most places have no stock, the part number I was given was 94434702702 or 94434702703. I spoke to a company in Germany and they said the parts are not the same because the RHD shaft is longer than the LHD version.

This is made worse by the realisation that it is almost certainly a Mk1 Golf part, Porsche prices are up to £400 (with no stock available) and Golf ones are freely available and cost less than £50!

If you go on the tipec or PCGB forum you will find a helpful guy called waylander - he has all the tools needed to refurb the steering shaft.

And yes the LHD and RHD shafts are different as the shaft is located differently :)

It is the Universal Joints that fail usually due to heat from the exhaust (doesn't happen as much to LHD cars).

Mark and Whiteknight, thanks so much - those are really, really helpful - I will try to arrange this today!
