Just don't ask how many miles are on the clock! The owner of the company may give you a talk, mainly on how condition is more important - which is largely true of course.

Seem to be honest enough - there is a 2-tier price system: 1. drive away "as seen" and 2) Prepared to higher standard - see the detail on the website. I would recommend the higher-priced option for peace of mind.

agreed but as miles is still very important question, always ask...... !

Quite a nice car, a bit overpriced-but magenta interior...

You will get a lot of useful comment on this site, especially if you want a 993!

To avoid boring everyone rigid again and without wishing to insult your intelligence or knowledge, get advice. I found most specialist dealers really helpful even though I didn't buy a car from them.

There is a Porsche guide called the Red Book for 911's which will give you a brilliant guide to the evolution of the car plus several others that can be bought through this site.

You seem to favouring the 964 but that seems enough money for a LHD. One sold on ebay (no warranty but with its history well stated) for under 14K.

I joined PCGB and got a lot of advice from the registrar once I had decided to buy a 3.2. Went off and bought someting else but hey ...Porsche Post also carries a huge number of adverts, as does this site and 911 world.

Prices vary immensely, so a lot of background research pays dividends. It is also fun!

Paul Devyea still had a 3.2SE cab with 75K on the clock asking 16995.

this is a very helpful forum.

thankyou for responding i take your comments onboard.

i will certainly join the owners club and go and see some dealers.

i am looking to buy a car for sunday use only and prefer 964's purely because i like the way they look.

a nice 3.2 coupe would certainly be looked at..

Jon,

May be worth a look at this site if the 964 does it for you and it meets your budget. The garage is in my area but I've only just noticed their advert and browsed the site.

I don't think I've seen so many 964's in one place.

Careful though because I received a lot of warnings about the 964 (and the 968).

yeh been there - nice cars.

this bad design issue with the 964's is starting to bug me.

thing is if i can get the car cheap it's only ever gonna be a sunday drive never more than 5000 miles a year.

what are the annual running costs of say a 993 compared to a 964?

what can i get a 993 lhd for?

Running costs probably less for 993. You can get a lhd one for £18-£20k.

Hi Jon,

Been away for a the past few nights so haven't followed up your posts.

I don't think I'd write off any particular type of 911 for the sort of use your envisaging. I had similar criteria plus I definately wanted a cabriolet.

However, I'm not sure I'd buy a left hooker just because it would allow me to buy into a newer type. (But maybe if it was a rare type like a turbo or RS). I started my search for a car at the beginning of the year and some of the LHD's I saw then are still with the dealers.

Condition and history have got to be your guide combined with a budget.

On 5000 miles per annum, I was advised to budget £1500 per annum for maintenance costs plus Insurance. The model wasn't going to make much difference. I was also told to budget for something going wrong with a 968 (something in the drive train I think) and oil leaks if it was a 964. Don't ask me why though as Porsche's are very well built.

The 964 was the stepping stone from the 930 to the 993 but then every year has seen an evolution of the 911.

For a weekend and fun day car, I think I would try and choose a rare model as this might give you a better chance of recovering your money if necessary. It's also more fun. Every dealer I spoke to said Targas (pre-993) leak and squeek but I would seriously consider one if I was goign to use it all year round.

Get Porsche Post and 911 World and make the comparisons :)
