911 Targa on Wheeler Dealers

On a similar note, has anyone seen the Car SOS series currently being run on Nat Geo channel. Same sort of cringe material but nice ideas to restore basket cases that have been left in garages for various reasons and seriously decayed.
I don't know how they fund it and the "scams " they pull to obtain discounts from suppliers are outrageous.
Every car is described as the worst one they have ever had and needs a miracle to repair it but they do. TBH I would probably scrap most of them myself.
However its just entertainment and not aimed at enthusiasts (I think  )

in a similar vein Salvage Hunters - Classic Cars, although I find Drew Pritchard one of the presenters irritating.

T8, seems you rattled my cage... (-: Slightly more off topic, but you started it.. (-:

Porsche as an INVESTMENT seems to have gained a bit since my pal bought his nice condition 964 back in 2009 for £16k from a specialist dealership, he has not used it much since then, but has added carbon fibre to bits`n pieces to the engine bay and polished everything while modifying it lightly to resemble an RS.... What`s it worth.. my guess is a lot more than he bought it for and has spent on it since, the market decides, but as we know markets can go both ways in time relative to external influences...?

I was looking for my first 911 in 2009 and it must have been a really good 964 at £16k. I saw several ok examples at c£14k but they weren't by cup of tea. Obviously with hindsight I'd have bought two of them instead of one still depreciating 996.

Quest at 18:00 tonight is a 996 Convertible on Wheeler Dealers. I think I've seen the episode before as they go on about the IMS bearing, but always worth a watch

T8, I would expect my pal to be amongst quite the fussiest and astute of Porsche buyers given he had been into Porsches since 1986 and had owned a series of them from an SC through 994 on to a 993 Carrera 4 S around the time it was a new car, and then on to 996 cabrio, and a few others before deciding on the 964 that he bought in 2009, perhaps as being his air cooled preference as a keeper.

I suspect the investment aspect of classic cars may just have diluted some of the enjoyment for many folk who are just petrol heads at heart, causing them to be influenced towards protecting their investment as opposed to just enjoying the car for that which it is..? I guess the more you have to stretch financially to buy a Porsche, then the more impact it may be likely to have on the balance of enjoying it relative to maintaining it`s value retention.. :?:

I will look forward to that, timer set for 6.

Whilst on the subject of TV shows my friend was a consultant on the dreadful saving classic cars program, the one with the shouty fat bald chap and the canadian. He called me up and asked if i wanted to see all the cars so duly went over and was appalled at the lack of workmanship.

The orange Porsche featured was dreadful and apparently subject to a dispute with the lucky winner. I had a chance to bid for it and took it for a test drive where the back end seemed loose and this was just driving in suburban traffic. Seems they forgot to re fit the rear anti roll bar or similar. I di buy all the spares which was useful.

Your right TV is not rel life.
