A few months back i remember reading an article one of the 911 mags about how they rented a 997 from an airport near the ring, raced it and returned it 24 hours later..price did not seem insane (few hundred) and apparently totally legal/legit.

Does any one remember where they rented from?

Thanks!

Mike

Mike, it was the Jan issue of GTPP and he booked it via the web from Avis for £170 per day.

Hi

£170 per day wow that is amazing. I will check this further as that does seem pretty exceptional value.

Alan

He did have to pay for 200 km more than the standard rental agreement, though. He doesn't say how much that was.

Of course if it got dented on the ring - that would be another problem!

The devil's in the small print, for instance my local H***z agency hire out a 997 for reasonable rates...but they insist on a non-waiveable excess of £5000...

The guy in the article only had a 950 euro excess but he did have to pay 1 euro per km over the 200km hire agreement. So, yes he did say how much it was

and isn't the ring is about 200km from frankfurt !

and at 21km per lap.........

Now you guys have got me worryting this wont be value for thrill!...so AA route planner says...

Koln/Bonn Airport is 103km to Ring

Frankfurt is 175km.

So if my maths are right 10x laps at 21 km = 210km @ .67p = £140

So £107 rental for 1x day (gets to back and forth from Koln)

and £140 ring km costs

= £247

+ a cheap flight , cheap hotel and probably a fair amount of Petrol.

+ 950 euro (worst case!)

Probably still under £500 for a pretty cool experience...
