Hi

I'm a newbie who is about to enter the world of Porsche ownership thereby fulfilling a lifetime dream.
I'm split between a 2015 991.1 Turbo S with 20,000 miles or a 2019 992 Carrera 4S with 15,000 miles. What would the general thoughts be?

Thanks

Hehe simple one, the turbo of course! :thumb: Hypercar performance for sports car money

Turbo S. Different league 8)

Hi and welcome!

I had a (sort of) similar dilemma in choosing between a 991.1 C4S and a 997 Turbo. In my price range it had to be one of the two. I plumped for the 991 in the end becasue it was a more modern car with many improvements, and the last NA engine to boot. Mine is no daily and if I'm honest I would possibly tire of it if it was, whereas the Turbo would be more rewarding for continuous use I suspect.

In your case I think it depends on how much you like the 992 over the 991 in terms of size and modernity etc. Because it's a seriously capable car with more than enough power. You're not comparing NA vs Turbo but I think the 991.1 Turbo makes a very pleasing sound.

I have a soft spot for the 991 over the 992 design-wise (in fact I think the 997 is more attractive still). So if you like the design (and it's a very compliant ride) then as others have said you're comparing apples and pears in the sheer power department because you are into super-car territory for sure with the 991.1 Turbo S (I would defo want one of those)!

Thanks for the comments. The car won't be a daily, special use only, but that could be daily!
I'm having a couple of test drives tomorrow so I'll see how that goes. I reckon it'll be the Turbo S!

:welcome: to the Forum.

Both cars would be an excellent buy assuming that the asking prices are similar. Mileages are close so not really a consideration.

Even though the Turbo S is now 6 years old, so long as it has a full OPC service history and you have the opportunity to keep extending the warranty, then I would go for the Turbo S. Starship Enterprise quick.

Good luck with the test drives.

Bear in mind that with the turbo, you will barely be able to touch the accelerator for more than three or four seconds at a time without entering prison territory. So it requires some discipline to enjoy responsibly That said, I have a Turbo!

Why not consider getting a £30k cheaper "newish" 911, plus a 40-year-old air-cooled model that you can push and throw around a bit without far exceeding legal road speeds.

Given that a 992 Carrera S is just as quick as a 996T the need for discipline is equally important with both cars. The 991 Turbo S however would take that need to a whole new league.

By now you'll have found that these are totally different cars not just in terms of outright performance but also in looks and equipment. The choice should have become far easier to make. I'm looking forward to hearing of your decision and your reasons.

ps. :welcome: to 911uk

turbo s but if you can stretch get the facelift. They are a worthwhile improvement under the skin ;)

Hi all

Thanks for the helpful comments and welcomes. Deposit placed on Turbo, the presence of the car, the sound and sense of being in something extra special outweighed the more up-to-date Carrera. Not to mention the giggle inducing performance.
Unfortunately I'm not collecting until August so have to practice patience.

Good choice and am sure you won't regret one second of ownership :thumb:
