311bhp Caterham 620R - Autocar video review

Developed by a pal of mine who built my last caterham. I would love to have a go. Makes me so tempted to go back to caterhams but i knowi just wouldnt use it very much.

I've never owned a Caterham, but it's on my to-do list. Just something basic with about 150bhp should be fine for road usage. I remember doing the gymkana at CAT last year and I think that car was only 135, but such a hoot!

I'd love a Caterham, but what really put me off them is seeing a chums one close up: every fastener on the car rusted slightly and the chrome finished wishbones pitted etc etc. This is on a well cared for, garaged car. the car certainly goes superbly, but it is really let down by some penny-pinching on materials. I know we probably have the same issues on our dearly beloved Porsches, however you can't actually see most of the fasteners unless you look underneath or open something. For a car like the Caterham that has so many of them 'on display', they should at least have used decent quality screws.

On the plus side, a newer CRS (with every carbon option available), that I had a close look over, seemed to be much better made.

Anyhow, makes me wary as they are certainly not cheap cars to buy...

I really wouldn't mind having a cheap old caterham as it would be a 3rd car just for dry summer time road hoonage, I wouldnt track it (well, I'd probably try a couple of trackdays!). One day.... 8)

You need that double garage Roro!

Same .... came very close to an R300 last year which is plenty for the road and track. Cant imagine what double that would feel like - probably get fed up of the wheelspin everywhere.

Agreed - I'm quite happy with spinning the wheels in 1st only, maybe in 2nd as well, 3rd, 4th.... that's just being greedy!!

It looks fun in that vid but to live with it IMHO would be a right PITA and the same level of fun had for half the price :D

I know they are not wet weather cars but imagine trying to nurse it home if you got caught out :nooo:
