For sale is my beautiful 2002 Porsche 911 (996) Carrera 2 Tiptronic S Cabrio, an outstanding low mileage example of this desirable model in the very rare Polar Silver exterior colour with Metropole Blue interior and hood. Being my first Porsche I looked long and hard to find an exceptional example with provenance to support its condition, and eventually found and purchased this car three years ago from an older member of the Porsche Club of Great Britain.

The previous owner had a very expensive ceramic coating applied to the paintwork (including the hard top) which keeps it in gleaming condition and makes it so easy to clean. Like him, I’ve only used it on dry days and it’s always been garaged. The bodywork is all straight with no parking dents and paintwork is likewise, with only a couple of minor paint chips to the lower front bumper. The hood is in excellent condition with very minor marking/ scuffing considering its age (I’m being picky really), and the folding mechanism works faultlessly.

It has been very well looked after throughout its lifetime with a full service history including an engine rebuild by Hartech at circa. 40,000 miles which included the upgraded IMS. The RMS has also been done previously.

The vehicle comes with a folder full of old invoices and MOTs, and stamped/ documented service history as below:

If you check the MOT history online you’ll see how well it’s fared, having passed every MOT since 2011 without any advisories.

Any inspection welcome, but please no timewasters or scams - full payment by bank transfer on collection.

I put this up for sale this time last year, but decided to take her off sale a short time afterwards and have another year with her. Sadly, now time to move on as getting too little use. Been recently valued at £18-19k, open to offers around £16,995 for quick sale.

Boxster 986S alloys...?

Possibly, the elderly chap I bought it from did say he'd taken off the original wheels as the ride was too harsh for him and had fitted these wheels as they have a better comfort level. I think when he had the car ceramic coated he maybe also had it (or something similar) done to the wheels, as the brake dust just wipes off them.

Do you have the invoice or paperwork for the Hartech Engine build?
Yes i've got the invoice (or what actually looks to be a photocopy of it) it was before I owned it - the narrative on it says "Strip & assess engine. Repair 1 damaged bolt thread. Supply & fit 1 new cylinder (no. 6), rebuild with new gaskets & seals, new modified IMS bearing & stronger spindle, new crank shaft oil jets, low temperature thermostat & 3 new pistons". It cost £4,775.13 and was done back in April 2011 by Hartech for the Porsche dealer near London called Portiacraft.

Ok

So only 1 cylinder and 3 pistons

Does it mention what failed or why it went for repair?

Would be interesting to find out .

I've had a look on the Hartech invoice but no notes to suggest why.

However, the owner of the vehicle named on the service invoice in July 2010 (Porsche Centre Hatfield) is different to the owners name on the invoice for July 2011 (Porsche Centre Guildford); my guess would be that the 2010 owner sold/traded it with Portiacraft and they had the work done on it before selling it to the next owner. The car still has number plates with the Portiacraft name/logo on them. Maybe they spotted something while prepping the car and got Hartech to sort it??

Sorry I can't be more specific, but it was done 10 years before I owned it! What I can definitely say is that it hasn't missed a beat in the 3 years i've had it (and it certainly hasn't been driven hard by me, nor the older chap who owned it before me).

Maybe worth a call to hartech as they'll have the details from the invoice number i'm guessing..?

Generally I believe a lot of businesses now can't give out details of what's happened to a vehicle if it was owned by someone else at the time due to privacy laws.

Portiacraft offers a warranty to rebuild engines on cars they sell, if you know the name on the photocopied invoice you might be able to correlate it to the owners of Portiacraft.

Looking at what you've written though it's a partial rebuild in my mind i.e. cylinder 6, the weak one for borescoring has been sorted, and 3 pistons on that side of the engine. Therefore cyls 1-3 are original and bores 4 & 5 are still original bore material which could still be open to borescore. I would also assume the shells and bearings around the crank are still the original items at that price.

Still, a good thing to have in the car's history though, and in my mind, it is the type of repair a car dealer would do to fix the car i.e fix what is broken and keep costs minimal rather than an enthusiast approach where all 6 liners and pistons would have been replaced. From a business point of view, it makes complete sense and shows you can sort the engines out for long-term use without the full deal of £14k+ rebuild.
