Hi All,

I picked up my 02 996 C4S on saturday and needless to say the weekend passed far too quickly for my liking! :)

I'd like to thank you all for the inavlauable information on these forums which over the last few months have helped me, from next to no porsche knowlegde, home in on my desired car. Going on recommendations from this forum i contacted and received friendly responses from Jonas at JZ and Steve from JAZ. Peter Morgan, who I eventually used for my PPI was a true professional as well and very personable and gave me great peace of mind with my purchase.

I do have two questions that i'm still not clear on though and i hope you can help..

1) I went for a car with a PSE(again after recommendations on this forum) and this was definitly the right choice. I'm already tempted to carry out the mod to reclaim the sound from 31-44mph...However, i had thought all the PSE's were switchable( Not to keen to wake the neighbours up when parking in garage at 3am ;-)). I have scoured the dashboard and i can't seem to find the switch to turn it off. Are all PSE's switchable, and if so where should the switch be? Does anybody know if this can be retro fitted?

2) My car has a extended Porsche warranty which runs out in October. I have read that for servicing many people rate JZ and the like over OPC and I'm certainly inclined to agree. But with the 996 RMS and random engine shutdown issues, do people think its worth keeping the Porsches warranty going?

Again, thanks for the info...

good work (don't forget loads of pics !)

can't comment on the exhaust swictable setting as a 993 owner !... unless it is in within the computer settings ?

as for the warranty, I would say yes, for the 1st year at least and see how it goes... for the price it offers on a 3 year old car, an OPC warranty is a must.. even if their service quality and approach is questionable.... although any specialist is always happy to take your money ! but for peace of mind in the RMS world, I would say yes !

Hi there

Apparently there are 3 variations that could be specified at the time of installation.

1/ Straight PSE - permanently on - No switch off

2/ PSE with switch either on or off. - If on, operable at any speed or RPM

3/ PSE with Switch - If on, a bit of a rumble on ignition, but doesnt really kick in till later RPM/speed.

The switch should be one of the switches either side of the centre console (Normally under the PSM switch). If your PSE is on permanently, then the previous chap may have avoided the switch installation completely, which is by all accounts, the most expensive bit of the time taken to install. Either that or it may be an after market item.

Still saving pennies to get mine.

Hope that helps

Thanks Hendo, seems to make sense. I guess the neighbours will have to learn to love the sound of me returning, can't imagine it's that much of a hardship! ;-)

Sundeep, I enclose (hope it's worked) 1 pic, haven't had the chance to take any others yet, too busy driving, don't think i even ate this w/e...

Sundeep, Seal Grey with full black leather interior. 36k miles, manual, PSE which is a constant source of pleasure, PCM, Bose upgrade + CD changer, Litronics, memory seats...think that was all...

All in all, pretty much everything i was after, wouldn't have minded sunroof and small ally pack, but i'm not complaining, i found good cars are hard to come by.

Coming from a Mk IV Golf 1.8T, the best detail is obviously 320bhp superbly delivered through the four turbo II 18's!
