Young children in a 997

I've been lurking on the forum for many years since my last 911, a 964, some 10 years ago.

To celebrate my mid-life crisis I have recently become the proud owner of a one previous owner 997.1 Turbo Tiptronic S with 36k miles in slate grey, still under Porsche Warranty and with great options including PCCB, Sports Chrono, Sports Adaptive seats etc.

I have 2 young children aged 4 & 1 and thought I would share my findings on car seats and pushchair, boring I know but without them the 997 would not have been viable!

I know this topic has been covered many times before but thought it worthwhile to update.

I researched loads of car seat options and quite by chance stumbled across the Halfords essential 1-2-3 seat. It fits perfectly in the 997 seat bucket and due the method of securing it really suits the forward position of the 997 seat belt latch. Also as it has really subtle branding it doesn't shout "budget option"! Best of all for me it was buy 2 and save 10%

Pushchairs are always going to be a tight fit but following the discontinuance of the original Quinny Zapp the options seemed quite limited. I ordered a Quinny Yezz which is a really compact option and it fits perfectly.

I have made 2 appointments to have the car detailed as it rained non-stop first time around and it looks like rain for Saturday so likely to be called off. I will take some photos once it's done!

Hope this is of help to someone,

Adrian.

Ade, stick with Britax. I'm sure they do a specific seat for 911's.
A quick Google search will highlight this.
Also, I'm sure one of the guys on here was selling one. Try a peek in the classifieds section.

I've had a handful of 2+2's during the time my kids were growing up, Ferrari 308gt4, Ferrari 456, Merc 500SL (R107), and I've got about 6 different car seats, non of them fitted all that well. Now they are 9 &12 there is no need and they fit nicely in my 997. This is excellent advice, I wish I'd found something similar when I needed it - would have saved me a fortune. Having said that, the best seat was a cheap one from halfords.

when I bought my 997 turbo last year our little boy as about 18 months old.

the pram, car seat and travel cot that we had at the time didn't fit lol so I had to quickly resolve this as we were off to Dorset for a long weekend in the new car not long after I collected it.

I bought a Quinny Zap which fits perfectly - would be interested to see how well that other one fits by comparison as the zap literally fits like it was made for front boot of the car (I don't have a CDC by the way so just the nav unit in the front) £150 at the time

I also bought a "phil and teds" compact travel cot. Previously had a very expensive but lightweight Baby Bjiorn one but this was too big - fitted in the boot but nothing else fitted in with it! the phil and teds packs down into a really small holdall type bag. you could fit it in loads of places in the car actually as its so small. £160 at the time although seen cheaper since

also the car seats we had were all isofix - no isofix of course in these era cars so went for (after a lot of research and reading old posts on here) an Izi Comfort X3 seat. £160 at the time

I actually bought another quinny zap to keep as a spare in case the other one breaks / wears out as you can't get them anymore...

anyway I'd definitely recommend all the bits above and they all have worked really well for us.

i use these:

i have a 5 year old and 9 year old - they fit perfectly in the back and can be used when travelling - let the air out and they take up almost no room in a case.

kids are in my car once or twice a week for small journeys

I have a 2yo and a 7yo. I went for a Porsche car seat for the 2yo, got it from eBay for £70. Was in perfect condition, fits perfectly as expected and the little one loves it. The 7yo just uses a booster. Both fit with no problems. Being a little *****, they're not allowed food in the car and both rear seats have seat protectors on them. The little one also doesn't wear shoes in the car so she can't damage the hard back seats. The boot and the space behind the rear seats can swallow most of the stuff that we ever need. The only thing we don't use is a push chair, so have no recommendations on that.

Hi

I have been looking to buy a child seat for my 997 for some time now.

I just spent around an hour at Halfords with a very helpful guy attempting to shoehorn various seats into the back.

We tried the budget 1-2-3 but it does not fit properly; there is no sideways movement but due to the positioning of the seat belt, its impossible to secure it fully so there is forward movement. We tried a bunch of other stuff but still no-go!!

Unless anyone can make another suggestion I guess I'll have to go direct to Porsche.

On the other hand though, I did buy a new buggie by Recaro, its the easy-life model and fits perfectly in the boot with room to spare.

Did you remove the seat base as they are only held in with Velcro, I found the halfords 123 fits well with the base removed. Good luck. Adrian.
