Who can fit a low temp thermostat in Newcastle upon Tyne?

I'm not really confident enough to attempt fitting a low temp thermostat to my 997. Has anyone had this mod fitted in the Durham or Newcastle area as I would like a recommendation of a reliable garage from someone who has had this done if possible

Redline are good.

Within Newcastle itself (well, Gateshead) you've got Tom Ferguson.

I have used and would recommend Redline as they certainly know their onions, however there is nothing round there if you want to wait. You can wait in reception and access internet though.

I dropped in to see Tom Ferguson and did not get a warm feeling from him.

Looking at what's required I'd say with the guide on here any competent non Porsche mechanic could do this job.

Hey Evomanny, or anyone.

I don't have a 997 yet, still trying to find one.

Can I ask why fit a low temp thermostat, is it to avoid bore damage?

The idea is that the valve opens earlier (cooler) than stock, allowing the cooling effect on the block to take place sooner and minimising hot spots that can cause bore scoring. Ideally though also fit a third radiator.

Do a search - there's plenty on the subject.
 
No so much minimising hot spots (there are no internal differences in the block from the change, so just as many, cul-de-sacs and eddies), but reducing the entire block temperate by an average 7-9°C
 
Identifying the coolant system drain nut

Evening,
Just bought myself a lower temperature thermostat to change on my 997c2 20045.
I have downloaded the guides on how to do it! But wanted to get a clear picture identifying the coolant system drain nut. I haven't found a clear picture, has anyone got one looking up at the nut please?

Yes, linky in that thread.

But to save your mouse finger (to be clear: it's the bolt in the middle half hanging out!)

Although I would suggest if you missed that picture - captioned in the thread a pretty unambiguous : "Coolant drain plug (actually pictured just before I screwed back in)" - you may want to re-read the whole recipe again.
