I'm looking for a Silver 911 996 C4S with 18" Turbo wheels.
Must be immaculate, straight and under 31k.
Central England

Oh look at that....I just saw a pig fly :)

31k miles or 31k money?

Both would be nice, but as you state there is more chance of pigs flying. No £31,000 is what I meant! :D

You may find it a tad difficult to find a 996 C4S for that money let alone a 993 C4S either unless its been written off. I have never seen one this price even LHD. Best of luck James in your search it may take 5 yrs for depreciation to kick in.

What model of 996 do you think I should be looking for then with 31k? :?

Careful as we may enter into that same old argument again and then annoy Freddie. No offence Freddie

James do a search on here through the various topics in buying advice and get as much info as possible. Read some of the dedicated mags, Men Only, Club......sorry wrong topic........911 Porsche world, ask loads of questions on here, lots of people willing to help. After that then get an idea of the right 911 you want to suit you for the right price. The £31K you mention opens up quite a few options which is nice for you. You are either going to look at a 996 or a later 993 (a good one for that money), both fantastic cars. Go and test drive loads of cars and enjoy it!! Also would be worth having a chat with some of the experts who sell both cars. Paul Stephens (listed on here) gets good revues as does Paragon.

Good luck and keep us all posted on what you get!!

Thanks for the advice Charlie, I've spent most of today scouring the internet so I'm a bit mixed up at the moment. Prices seem to vary such a lot without there being any common rules! I don't want to open a can of worms but is the general census amongst purist's that manual gears is the best? Only I have to commute into a City every day and the thought of a automatic gearbox does appeal. However, past experience of automatic's is that they are like transvestite's, always in the wrong gear!!!! Not that I have any experience of transvestite's you know. I also like the idea of four wheel drive, again I have to travel from out of the sticks into town and if caught in bad weather would it give me that bit more reassurance?

Dont get too mixed up just look at your budget pick the 911 you want 993/996 and test drive the cars that fit into that C4?C2?Tip?Manual. And go for that one that you feel is right for you. There is honestly no wrong answer as long as you get a straight car so HPI and PPI and you will be fine. Just do your homework and that right car will soon appear. As you will see from many posts on here, dont be too hasty and ask loads of questions no matter how stupid. Its your money to spend how you want!! Just dont get a pink one you tranny!!!

Keep us all posted

James, if you do go the Tiptronic route, I have had both on 993 and 996 models. 993 4 speed tip is good whilst the 996 5 speed version is brilliant. In terms of your 'purist' thoughts you know your budget, you know you want a 911, as said above, test drive a variety, but see if you can test in heavy traffic conditions. If your car will encounter those conditions regularly then you'll figure which one suits. Both my recent cars have been tip though I dont commute with it. I do however get regular use of my M25 time share and its those times I'm really glad I've got it. The other reason is that Mrs H was ok as long as she got to drive it too, and tip with LHD keeps her happy. Hope that helps

I've no issue with 993s, its just when you bang on about them at the expense of everything else as though they are more magical than Ali Baba...
