Hi,

Taking a 996 out for an elongated test drive this weekend and would like some advice on what to look for both good and bad. Dealer knows me and is letting me have the car alone. Any help would be appreciated.

Daivd - which one are you trying? - they all have different handling characteristics.

Well assuming it is a coupe and has 18 wheels, the steering should be light and give lots of feedback through the steering wheel (may feel a bit like pulling) but that is normal. Car should dive into conrners and feel stable coming out - there shouldn't be any rocking.

Obviously give the brakes a good test. Listen out for squeaks and rattles (dashboard and rear seats.

Don't worry about no PSM, just be gentle when exiting corners and on roundabouts until you get the hang of it!

If you read some of the threads on 996 probelsm it will probably give you an idea of what else to look for. There was one recently on starting and stopping the engine - although this only seems to be apparent in 98-99 cars.

And of course enjoy yourself! :D :D :D :D :D
