Spoiler alert - 996 aerokit front lip spoiler project

What a great read this thread always is

The attention to detail, clean, clear and honest thought process and humour is very involving

Chapeau

Fantastic - thank you very much! Can't wait for it to arrive

Received my front lip today.

Unreal attention to detail during the design process it is absolutely great.

Hopefully get it fitted this week/next will update the thread with fitted photos

Thanks again @Interference Fit great to deal with too.

I just noticed in your middle picture that one end is slightly twisted. I can only imagine this is due to it being stood on end for a while in transit where it's own weight will have curled it slightly.

It will settle flat again very quickly as it has full memory properties, but takers a short while to recover due to the slight plasticity included in the polymer to aide abrasion resistance.

As you will have seen in the demo video, you can tie it in a knot and it will fully recover, but if left deformed, especially in a cold environment, may take a short while to fully level. It would mount up perfectly due to it's inherent flexibility, but just in case you wondered why it was not lying flat, straight out of the box, thought I’d mention it.

It's given me an idea to tape the others flat to the surface of the box to keep it still.

It just occurred to me that at no point have I mentioned 'what if' scenarios.

**For the avoidance of doubt**

If anyone is in any way not 100% satisfied with their spoiler, its quality, value proposition or fit, just let me know and I can either fully refund or replace it at my full expense.

Whilst this is not a commercial enterprise and very much just me as a hobbyist trying to help my fellow forum members not be wounded by supply and demand market forces, it is essential to me that everyone has a great experience that surpasses that normally experienced with many retail vendors. It's just something that matters to me, so to reinforce that with actions that are not just words, full no quibble refund / replacement is offered.

Thanks :)

Yehh I did guess this I lid it out and just popped something on the lip to keep it down to pull it back straight and it’s all fine now 👍🏻🙌🏻

@M1ke

All done and ready to post. I've attached the protective sleeve to the inside of the box, so don't worry if it appears stuck inside.

What's the collective noun for spoilers? A flow? A disturbance?

Whatever it is, I assembled the patient troops for their trip under the laser to be branded.

IMG_3135.JPG

Which means it was time to play lasers again, only this time with the various components at least partially rack mounted and with adequate air flow round the cooling fans! 😃

IMG_3140.JPGIMG_3141.JPG

The extrusion sections used for the homemade rack allow for hight adjustment of the head depending on the power and substrate being etched.

They also can be used to make a carry handle!

IMG_3142.JPG

All the remaining spoilers received their birth certificate without complaint, including one I finally moulded for myself. Ignore the surface finish, this is mould fresh and still covered in wax.

IMG_3148.JPG

I'd run out of release spray wax when I moulded mine, so experimented on a different method where I polished the inside of the lid and applied carnauba wax. The results were interesting.

The carnauba wax was not as good of a release agent as the proprietary spray, although I probably didn't use enough of it, or polished too much of it away. It took some firm words of encouragement to release it from the lid.

It did however leave a rather, erm, ('ll let you decide) surface finish on the mating face.

IMG_3137.JPGIMG_3139.JPG

Good to know the resin blend is capable of this. I think.

And finally, another opportunity to level up with a heat sealer for the protective sleeves I use.

IMG_3143.JPGIMG_3144.JPGIMG_3154.JPG

It gives a more satisfying appearance, so I'm pleased I have this now.

Now you’re talking.

I got mine out the box yesterday for a trial fit. Unfortunately, like one of the others above, it had been coiled up in the bottom for a while. Once on the car it has retained a bit of a wave, but I’m hoping it will come back slowly. I’ll let you know how it goes.

It’s not particularly warm (or cold) in my garage, but do you think some gentle heat might help it along if it doesn’t come back of its own accord?

It is, however, an absolutely beautiful thing.

Hi, thanks for the feedback.

It will (should) fully recover to its correct form in a short space of time, I've had them drooping over the edge of a shelf for a few weeks and once laid flat on the bench, are 100% flat again within 24 hours, 90% of the way there within a couple of hours.

The material is not a thermoplastic so applying heat will not (should not) make any difference. Feel free to run a hair dryer along it a while but I doubt this would change anything.

If it doesn't fully recover within a day or so, remove it and lay it flat on the bench and give it another 24 hours. Assuming removal will destroy the 3M tape, let me know and I'll send you out a new roll at my expense.

If it doesn't recover on the bench, I'll exchange it for a replacement at my full cost.

Based on this and previous feedback, all spoilers are now posted affixed to the box to prevent this occurring.

If for any reason when removed from the box it does not lay flat, let it rest for 24 hours on a flat surface before fitting.

As ever, any issues, let me know and I'll sort one way or the other, but the material should fully recover.

Please post progress in the thread so others can see how we progress. (y)

I agreed not to post the spoiler for @Mallone until he is ready for it, so have opened the box (standing on end for a couple of weeks now) to assess and like above, has assumed a temporary bend at each end whilst not affixed to the box.

IMG_3159.JPG

IMG_3160.JPG

I've got this laid out flat on the bench and will report how it responds over the next 24 hours, as this will give clarity of prognosis to anyone else 's who's has gone on a bender whilst unsupervised.

Additionally, I've taken one of the test mules (i.e fails) and clamped it to a workmate with the ends deliberately dropping over the side to form a bend. Once this has had 24-48 hours to assume the position, I'll then lay it flat and see how it recovers and cross reference this with the spoiler for @Mallone as a double sense check.

@kaizengruppe @ryanwright91 @corneg1 @King Schulz @M1ke Please can you provide feedback on how your spoiler landed as I can see most of you have now received. Those since have been box affixed.

Thanks all - this is one of those situations that you don't know what you don't know, but rest assured - a positive outcome will prevail irrespective. :)
