So, there I was, yesterday, driving along a bumpy B road [it was nice dry conditions here], and this guy from work appears in the mirror in his red M3...I'm going really pretty fast - I wouldn't want to go much faster to be honest, and to cut a long story short as soon as he gets the chance he ups and cruises right by me. Easily...

Now, i'm not worried about power - I know that I can pretty much drop him on a good flat straight road...but the thing is my little Porker was bouncing all over this road when he came by me, and I was pretty shocked at how planted and secure the M3 looked.

Is it time for a suspension upgrade? I'm still on the standard [non sport]
shocks at 61,000 miles...

Oh, and to make matters worse that M3 is a convertible....

What do you expect? You're driving a 993

LOL. Are you saying you got ripped by an M3 in a '96 Porsche? Did you press the brake by accident?

I'm very embarrased for you here, it was awfully gutsy of you to come on here and admit to that

How old was the M3, not that you have an excuse if the M3 was brand new?

You reckon the Porsche is faster in a straight line and i would have thought the Porsche being a more dedicated sports car should be good on bends, what happened?

Dunno, they all look the same to me...private plate on this one (poseur)

I knew i'd get stick for this...but, i'm really asking about my suspension...

It wasn't the bends it was the bumps....flat roads no problem...sheesh

I had the latest M3 before my 997 cab and would not say the 997 was any faster and in some situations the M3 felt more sure footed and handled high speed better.

I doubt it was an E30 if they all look the same to you mate. Probably a normal E46 cab.

Get a C4S, beleive me that thing feels very planted! :)

A suspension upgrade would certainly help. Billie HDs and H&R lowering springs (or a even a set of Bilstein PSS9 fully adjustable coil-overs if the budget will stretch) would make it far more composed at speed.

Failing that, a Ninemeister 350bhp upgrade will shake off the pesky M3!

Also, and no disrespect meant, but how about driver training? I only say this because on the occasions I've had training and good track session in a car I feel much more confident in its and my abilities and then tend to be more confident in pushing it- the M3 is a very easy car to drive fast as it is all 50:50 weight distribution, stability control, M differential etc, maybe even sequential box (plus a useful power advantage over the 993) The 993 requires far more driver input to drive fast.

There is no shame in being beaten by a new-shape M3 as they are seriously quick tools.

Oh dear, you lot must be older than i thought - you're not the war generation :D

I mean imagine RobertB: 'Oooo, oooo, sir i don't want to fight the battle of the bulge, the 5th Panzer division is much faster and better armoured than our Shermans and my sticky bomb has run out of stick, there's no shame in running off and getting beat by Panzers, lets go'. :(

Same here, 'The road was bumpy' - thats the worst excuse for getting ripped i've ever heard. For gods sake man, pick up your baynet & your mine dipped in gloop and go and charge a tank.

You bottled it here, i would have beaten him or killed us both trying

And the M3 stinks, you've just had your ass whipped by a 3-series basically, you've got to have more of a cavalier attitude towards life if you want to be a real man :D

Dangerman,

You really are a complete P****, you would kill yourself and somone else trying.

I have never read such appaling twaddle, if you were paralised or handicapped or worse killed by the kind of iresponsible behaviour advocated by yourself, would you really have the same sentiments.

Act you age for godsake, we may enjoy fast cars, however the majority of us are very careful, and only drive at speed where it is appropriate and would never consider other peoples lives being fair game.

How do you think the mother of a todler ran over and killed by an iresponsible racer feels.

You really have a lot of growing up to do.

Darren.

Well said Daz.

Although I think the problem stems from the fact he is acting his age. Clearly a very little boy probably in a computer lesson, but can't keep up with what the teacher is saying...

If you're having a race on the roads, you can hardly complain if you die or get maimed doing it though. How can you engage in a dangerous activity and then get on your high horse if something goes wrong. Don't try and race me and i will leave you alone. Simple.

Why would a toddler be on a bumpy country road? :?
